    INTERNET FREEZE.jpg

Lately my computer freezes when I use internet. Everything stops in mid-air and I can’t even shut the computer off and start it up again in the normal way. Usually I can surf for about 5 minutes before it freezes up but sometimes it freezes the moment I access the Internet.

I have checked my anti-virus and also my malware program but neither detect anything. I have tried using Google Chrome and Mozilla but it doesn’t help. A proxy server works without much trouble but I’d like to know what is going on.

Do you have any ideas or advice?

I tell everyone to use Sandboxie to run their browsers in. It creates a sandbox that can be deleted after use so it also deletes any malware or virus you may have downloaded.

Problem is, no one takes the advice.

I have used it for years now and no longer have issues like yours.

Thank you. I have a proxy server that works so we're sort of using the same method. But I would really like to know what the problem is. Both my anti-virus and anti-malware work pretty good and neither show that there are any viruses or PUPs. Does the fact that the proxy works mean that I am being targeted by "higher powers" like NSA or the equivalent in my country?

Have you given ccleaner a try?

Also I don’t think a proxy server protects your PC, only your anonymity.

I didn't think about a cleaner. Is there something you recommend? Yes, I'm sure you are right about proxy servers.

I don't think I know how to do it. I've gone through the "history" and removed all of that. Is that the same thing?

Well, remove all the things that are similar to history--cookies, etc.

Bring up task manager when that happens.
See if it shows anything hogging all the resources.

Win 10 is terrible during updates and seems to get lost in updates and basically can bring a computer to it's knees.

I have just down loaded the trial application and have run ...

Let me try again. I down loaded the free pro trial application and let it run through my computer so I returned WITHOUT PROXY to tell you about it but my computer froze as you see above. I'm here now WITH THE PROXY.
Back to the drawing board. :-|

I think that's what I did with the CCleaner but I can try it manually too.

Run in safe mode with internet and see if there is a problem, if not you may have something loading causing conflicts.

It is impossible to bring up task manager "when it happens". It's froze. I mean really, completely frozen. The only thing I can do is keep my finger on the "shut off" button until the whole thing shuts down - and then start up the computer again.

I bought the computer with Win 8 and I read that Win 10 was a bummer so I resisted installing it.

Do you have a restore point?
Go back to an earlier version.
And good on you and not getting win 10.

Sounds like a good idea. How do I run "safe mode"?

You should turn off one of the two anti-virus programs on your system. Running two apps can really eat up system resources. You should also check the CPU usage and identify what application is heating up your computer's CPU, thus slowing it down.

Win 8 is the paid beta for Win 10, so yeah, it's better than 8.

Use adblock and scriptblock to turn off all your porn pop ups.
