Introduction to Ethnic Studies

A ehile ago I saw a request for a syllabus of a course incorporating CRT. I have found such a syllabus and link it here. There is a lot a material to discuss if anyone is interested in what is being taught in California schools where Ethnic Studies is required by law.

COURSE DESCRIPTION Course Overview: Course Overview: In this semester course, students will understand the intersectional themes of indigeneity, coloniality and hegemony to explore issues of self and communal identities, examine intergenerational trauma and foster collective hope and healing. After someone provides the above, can they then explain if the injustices of the past committed by the groups mentioned in the OP will be included in the curriculum, or they only going to be portrayed as victims?

"Critique empire, white supremacy, racism, anti-blackness, anti-indigeneity, patriarchy, cisheteropatriarchy, capitalism, ableism, anthropocentrism, and other forms of power and oppression at the intersections of our society"

 

Okay. So they’re studying different ethnicities. Sounds like a good intro course to me.

 

So I call it commie and your response is they critique capitalism?

Notice there is no critique of communism mentioned because this is literally critical theory.

 

You can critique capitalism because not all capitalisms are the same. There are lots of different capitalisms in the world.

 

You can critique anything.

They critique capitalism because it's a direct competitor to Marxism.

If you are a lefty this may not be obvious but it glaringly obvious to everyone else.

 

You can be a capitalist and critique how capitalism is practiced in other countries.

You’re not going to see a lot of critique of communism because… communists have historically been allies to ethnic minorities. Like what happened in Vietnam and their quest for independence. There nationalists and communists teamed up. That’s why Vietnamese communism is so different than Chinese nationalism to the north, despite both being peasant based revolutions. Though to be fair that is with nationalism, not ethnicity. But ethnic nationalisms and communism are linked together.
