Of course we should always be ashamed of slavery! And most definitely not commemorate those who fought to maintain it. How is it possible that I even have to say this?

Yes, we should remember our history of slavery, and we should also remember that we ended slavery. Countries are not forever defined by their ugliest moments.

If we don't want to be defined by our ugliest moment, then let's stop publicly displaying statues of those who fought to preserve those ugly moments as if they were some sort of "heroes". They weren't! What they defended was despicable!

it’s ok. You are in the clear. One day in history they all had a meeting and republicans are like “hey. We’ll be the racist ones now”
    What day was this anyway?
    Do you have historical references?
Might be easier to just own up to being in the party of slavery and jim crow

So thank god the Democrat Party evolved into the party of Civil Rights and Voting Rights. It's too bad that tRumpublicans have take the exact opposite tact and are now the party of disenfranchisement and anti-civil rights.

You say they're memorials to slavery, southerners say they're honoring service to regional pride. I vote with them, you don't get to decide what others choose to honor.

I voted against. And, guess what.... the statues are coming down (and schools and streets are being renamed too). And good riddance! So I guess most of those "southerners" that you mention agreed with me.

My point is that it's the right decision. And you don't appear to have any counter-argument. So I guess that means that my point is made....

Not all "Southerners". If you get a vote why doesn't he?

There is proof that Blacks owned slaves. The way you speak I am led to believe you think Blacks were not Democrats.

    Democrats were very pro slavery.

This is hiding the crime. That is all removing statues amount to. Who wants the crime of slavery hidden, Democrats do of course.

This reminds me of the mafia removing all evidence they are a Crime operation.
But taking it out on the Robert E Lee statue is just nuts. He did not promote slavery. And in his case it would be normal had he done so. Even the Great Washington promoted slavery as did Jefferson plus 10 more presidents. it was routine.

You are mistaken. Dems of today do not own slaves. Dems of today do not promote slavery. Dems in the past did both.
What I want to know is why since Slavery is a distant part of our history, why do Democrats constantly bring it up?

Hah! I see signs of desperation in such a childish argument. It would be a weird way to hide a crime to remove the statues that glorify slavery while at the same time promoting CRT teachings that the ripple effects of slavery are felt even to this day.

BTW, slavery was not a crime before the 13th A. It was immoral! Your attempts to minimize it as a simple "crime" are very telling.

Duh, the Black vote of course! Keep 'em focused on the slavery of the past and OFF the slavery of dependence they have them in now.

    Statues do not glorify slavery.
Slavery is not legal. Did you think it is legal in the USA?

It hides the crime the same way Democrats blather on about not having statues in Central America devoted to Americans hide the crimes. We know of crimes done by Americans in Central America but when they have no statues, it hides the crime.

I would go so far as to declare that in America, Republicans wiped out Slavery. This upsets Democrats to the point they keep talking of it as if it exists today. They make stuff up about blacks as they are repressed, can't vote, and lack opportunity. It is a sham to promote Democrats.

Based on the higher per capita incarceration rate, the higher crime rate for blacks, the Democrats accepted poverty rate of Blacks, clearly they promote Slavery to keep blacks from knowing the truth. Slavery is banished. Not for over 150 years has it been legal. And when legal, it was promoted by Democrats.

LOL, you have NEVER produced proof that the Democrats and Republicans 150 years ago are the same as they are now...NEVER....

You have NEVER produced proof that what were called Republicans 150 years ago never owned slaves.

It was kind vs what I really think of people with such desire to twist narratives.

    It was accurate.
