I’m libertarian in that I believe in the classical liberal tenet of the primacy of individual liberty over the demands of the commune. That means limited government, low taxes, free markets and trade, and a strong emphasis on freedom of conscience. Until 2016 I had supported the Republican Party, but believe they have discredited themselves with their embrace of Trump. On the other hand the Democrats’ scurrilous behavior in the Kavanaugh affair and their leftist leanings strike me as equally dangerous and unacceptable. My education is in philosophy although my professional background is in business. I’m a proud atheist who overcame my Christian upbringing decades ago. Although I tend to have strong opinions, I respect those with opposing views who argue with facts and reason. Not so much those who primarily respond with name-calling, personal attacks or superficial talking points.
