While I am pretty sure Trump will be more worried about 'arrest warrants' that could be issued in the US once his term ends, the warrants issued against the other 35 individuals not named might end up being a catalyst for a possible flare up between the two sides.

In any case, while it is too early to tell if this is going to have any ripples or means anything, I was surprised there was no thread on the issue.

Maybe Trump should have temporarily reappointed Hillary as Secretary of State, and let her make the call.

    Hilarious.

Is this the terrible retribution you warned us was coming right after Trump dropped a wood chipper on General Salamiman's head?

    Because this is really terrible...

    Terribly funny.

This is interesting! Will Interpol do anything, or rather can Interpol do anything. Then again will they want to do anything.

I'm saying this because I recall years ago when Ihor Kolomoisky's men bombed Slaviansk in Ukraine with white phosphoros, that Putin issued an arrest warrant for him with Interpol.

Yet, as far as I know, Kolomoisky is still running around alive and well - even though he's under suspicion for even worse crimes such as the burning and hacking of protesters in the Trade Bldg. in Odessa, and the shoot down of the airliner in Ukraine.

Let me ask you something, why did the US kill Soleimani? Was it because of a peace deal with the Saudi's that would have ended the war in Yemen? I watched Soleimani speak one day, he was a very charismatic man.

    @Jeannette
On Interpol: the quick answer is no. They won't do anything.
On why the US assassinated General Soleimani: they quick answer: the neocons and Israelis wanted to make sure any ideas that Trump might have had about negotiating with Iran would become impossible. On this question, a bit more explanation might be helpful.

Trump did not order Soleimani's assassination in a vacuum. The main neocon, and the wider pro Israel lobby, while happy with Trump's decision to pull out of the JCPOA, were furious whenever he would entertain the idea of negotiating with Iran and were upset that he had not used some of the incidents that arose in response to US measures against Iran (e.g., Aramco oil facility attacks) or simply as a result of Iran protecting its rights (e.g., shooting down the Global Hawk drone for entering Iranian airspace), to take steps that would bring the US closer to war with Iran. Senators Graham and Cotton leading the charge from the US Senate, Pompeo and a host of lesser known figures from within the administration even after Bolton was no longer around, with Netanyahu both telling Trump these things when he could and do so through mutual 'friends' whenever he couldn't directly, assassinating General Soleimani became (in Trump's mind) the way to placate these voices, particularly when the neocons tied all out support for him in the brewing impeachment fight on him being forceful against Iran.

Soleimani should have stayed his ass out of Iraq...Iran's so-called enemy...and damn sure shouldn't have been there coordinating an attack on the US Embassy.

Iranians got away with attacking US Embassies during Jimmy Carter's years, but Trump isn't a gutless loser. We're not going to put up with Iran's **** any more (assuming we don't have a liberal in the White House).

Keep trying....keep getting a Hellfire missile up your ass. That's how it works.

You live in a fantasy world where nothing will change your mind. Otherwise, the facts are clear. First, Soleimani was not in Iraq to 'coordinate' attacks against the US embassy -- in fact, while not his real mission, the reverse, as Iran was using its influence with its allies in Iraq to calm down the situation, where many of these militia were furious at US/Israeli attacks on them. His real mission in that visit was to discuss with the Iraqi government attempts to bring a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Yemen, where the Iraqi government wanted to play the role of intermediaries between Iran and Saudi Arabia. Trump was fully aware of the purpose of that mission and had even given the Iraqi PM his 'green light" on that mission. Second, no matter how many times you scream the things you do, it was under Trump (and despite his threats to 'obliterate Iran', to "bring an official end to Iran", to "immediately respond to Iran by hitting "52 targets" etc) that Iran did hit the US on several occasions. Sometimes openly, such as in the missile attacks against the Al Assad airbase or shooting down the Global Hawk, and sometimes less openly, such as in the attacks against the Aramco facilities and many others. In the meantime, if the reprisal for the one American interpreter of Iraqi descent working as a contractor with the US embassy was why Trump ordered the assassination, how come he has been doing anything as many more rocket attacks have been launched against the US in Iraq by the Iraqi militias, killing and injuring more than just 1 contractor?

Trump is the only American I can think of who deserves to be handed over to Iran for "justice." Shame Joe Biden would never go for it.

:bored: Well at least in my fantasy world we don't shoot down Ukrainian Airliners full of civilians because we are so scared and dumb to distinguish them from Tomahawk missiles.

Speaking of fantasies, is it 72 virgins or 92? And what do you have to do to get them? Thanks in advance.

I don't think Trump would need to worry much.

If Trump assassinated General Soleimani on the behest of groups who were pushing him to take this course, knowing it would end any idea of 'negotiating with Iran", there are also those in Iran who (for more understandable reasons) want to make sure Iran never 'negotiates' with Trump (as sometimes the 'moderate camp' in Iran advocates in the middle of their list of 'conditions' for such negotiations), regardless of whether Trump wins or loses the US election. To the extent (and that is debatable and not clear) it is meant as anything more, it will be not in pursuit of Trump personally, but some of the other people (36 in total) whose arrest warrants have also been issued. If Iran does anything to put in practice these arrest warrants, those officials might have more grounds to worry about travel around the region than Trump.

So far, however, it seems mostly for the first purpose I mention (kill off any idea of negotiations with Trump) and as a publicity stunt to boot.

Trump gave them the opportunity to test their weapons, they actually did quite well for their first time, I am sure their neighboring countries are not happy

The US killed Soleimani because the generals convinced Trump to do it. That was probably not very hard to do, all things considered.

Actually, it wasn't the 'Generals" who convinced Trump. They weren't all that happy with the decision. It was mostly the neocons that are within the Trump administration (e.g., Pompeo and several others), working alongside those in the Senate (e.g., Senator Graham and Senator Cotton), and the Israelis who have Trump's ear.

No doubt the Israelis were thrilled at what Trump did. Dancing Israelis like on 911, joyful at killing.

I know who Trump's influences are, we all do, but killing Soleimani seems to have more to do with a possible peace deal between Saudi Arabia and Iran. It would have ended the war in Yemen, but it would also have formed an undefeatable alliance.

In that sense I can understand why Soleimani was killed - although it's a pity. I watched him speak once and he was such a charismatic man. Iran will never get over it.
