These guys could have gone hiking nearly anywhere else in the world and not had any trouble from anyone, but, some people have more leisure time than common sense... (sigh!)

That said, if these hikers weren't spies, and it seems very doubtful that they were, then the Iranian Government should be very grateful that they didn't try to pull this kind of heavy-handed, cruel crap with a President of the United States like Ronald Reagan in office!

But Amadinejad and the ******* despots who run Iran know that the reaction from today's Golfer-in-Chief, if any, wouldn't have the concussive effect of a popcorn fart.... :puke:

Hmm, like the hostages who were released while Carter was in office?

Commit the crime do the time. When in Rome do as the Romainians. Obey.

Hiya, Snake... don't you remember how the release of our American hostages went down? I sure do!

Iran released our American hostages minutes after Ronald Reagan was inaugurated! It was like the cherry on the icing on the cake of getting the clueless failure that was Jimmy Carter OUT, and starting the road to renewed American prosperity, prestige, and world power with the advent of the Reagan Era. :):flagus:

Those crudball Iranian bastards knew what would happen to them if they dared to keep American citizens as prisoners with Ronald Reagan as our Commander-in-Chief, and they wanted no part of that! They'd been wiping their butts with Jimmy Carter's face for 444 days, but even these insane Iranians knew Ronald Reagan was an entirely different kind of man!

Oh, in case you don't actually remember (snicker!) this fabulous, blessed day that included both Reagan's Inauguration, and the release of our hostages, here's some links that will help you with your, uh, amnesia:

I don't know if they were spies or not but it is not as if the U.S government does not and has not done similar things. Some people have been kidnapped and held at Guantanamo, and accused of being terrorist without a trial or any evidence on the part of the U.S government that those it accused were guilty.

That might actually be news to those who object to the conviction of Americans abroad.

This whole story has struck me as odd from the start. What kind of naive chump hikes in a war zone? Or, were they spies? Who knows? I'm no fan of Iran, but you wanna play, you're gonna pay.

The folly of youth takes it's toll. Time to pay the piper kids.

Yes, some choose to have selected memory or seem to believe that the U.S government has the right to do whatever it wants to other people. Well, that same government is about to turn on the American people.

The more they condemn Countries like Iran the more they condemn the American government, because much of what they accuse others of doing the U.S is guilty of the same.

I have no sympathy for them.
I'll bet that these two are of the same ilk that believes that US should have an open southern border.

They don't appear to be the type who would oppose racial terrorism along Mexico's northern borders. You'll be able to ask them, in about five years with remission for grassing up their CIA handlers, real or imagined.

What a load of rubbish! Of course nothing happened up until the minute the traitorous Reagan was inaugurated, right? You do provide the forum with some laughs, that's for certain.

Iranians prefer hanging queers and stoning victims of rape.

    FYI.

The clear lesson is for Americans never to travel to any country which has a Muslim majority.

    That's ridiculous..

Those "hikers" should have gotten an Iranian Visa if they wanted to hike in Iran.

I agree. Their presence in an Iranian prison will be like a festering wound between the two countries.

There are Iranian diplomats in NYC. Why should they be safe?

I agree with you on an intellectual level, but not on a moral level. There is no reason for an American isolationist to care about the lives of non-americans (except for maybe the chinese and vietnamese).

I don't think we have heard the worse of what those who are prisoners of Gitmo have and are going through. As history shows it is always decades later, and in most cases long after many have died before we hear the whole truth.
