?

Is desalination of ocean water a better way to reduce Global Warming than reducing CO2 emissions?

FOR THE RECORD.... I AM NOT ADVOCATING WORRYING ABOUT REDUCING CO2.... IT IS TOO LATE FOR THAT..... MEGA-SCALE DESALINATION OF OCEAN WATER TO TURN DESERTS GREEN IS THE ONLY WAY TO PERHAPS KEEP THE CLIMATE REASONABLY STABLE...... BECAUSE DOING THIS WILL DIRECTLY ADDRESS THE THREAT OF RISING OCEAN LEVELS AND... IT ALSO REDUCES THE AMOUNT OF HEAT BEING PUT INTO THE ATMOSPHERE EXACTLY AS CARL CANTRELL EXPRESSED YEARS AGO.

How hot is the sand in the world deserts in the afternoon? Thirty to forty degrees Centigrade or ninety to a hundred or more Fahrenheit.

How hot is the sand just before dawn the following moring? As you know the sand is cool by then... so where did the heat go? Into the atmosphere! The Carl Cantrell theory may be the best one yet to reduce the general Global Warming trend!

The methane is already being released in the Arctic so....
it is too late to address the general global warming trend through
reducing atmospheric CO2 emissions.... .we need to consider the
Carl Cantrell theory for two reasons.

    1. Deliberately turning deserts green directly addresses the threat of rising ocean levels because it diverts H2O out of the oceans back into the water table.

    2. Turning deserts green will reduce the amount of heat being put into the atmosphere by the deserts!

    3. Turning deserts green produces food and we do not know how agriculture will be affected by what is happening in the climate but..... the increase in foliage all over the world with the extra atmospheric CO2 is good news!

At least Mr. Carl Cantrell's theory gives us some hope... .because reducing CO2 emissions obviously will not work in time to prevent the kind of ice loss on the land based Greenland ice Pack that is obviously coming considering how the Arctic is warming so fast.

The facility in Israel proves that this is possible!

    Megascale Desalination
The world’s largest and cheapest reverse-osmosis desalination plant is up and running in Israel.

I am about 92% sure the ocean level will rise one way or another.

imho, the idea of limiting action to a single solution is a fail.

Plus, all solutions suffer the same basic problem in the US - leadership divided on climate change on the basis of party affiliation instead of science. In the US, Republicans demand that this problem be ignored - making ANY solution far less likely to have US backing. Today, we have Trump attacking California for reducing CO2 emissions!!

And, the US isn't capable of working with other countries right now.

There would have to be MAJOR political change before the US Senate would give serious effort to growing something in some foreign desert.

Very impractical because deserts are caused by Hadley cells. That is why you find deserts between certain latitudes. Warm air rises at the equator, loses it's humidity, and plunges in the dry latitudes. Because there is little humidity is why it gets so hot during the day and without the greenhouse gas water vapor so much heat is lost to space during the night and why it gets so cold in the desert at night.

What is happening in Greenland is a clue that we need to do something that will have a direct effect on keeping ocean levels stable.

Greenland is on track to lose most ice on record this year and has already shed 250 billion tons

I have serious doubts about the suggested solution on this basis. White reflects incident solar energy back into space. Dark colors like green absorb that energy - this means more solar energy has been trapped in the atmosphere. Some of that energy goes to growth but not all of it. Additionally, water vapor helps to trap heat. Vegetation undergoes evapotranspiration; a process which moves water from the ground into the atmosphere.

On a basic level, he seems to have the physics backwards.

There are two immediate actions that can be taken to reduce the rate and effects of climate change.

    1) The first is to create huge algae plumes in the oceans. This will create dead zones for a time so the locations chosen have to be considered carefully. But massive algae plumes absorb CO2 to grow. When it dies, the algae sinks into the deep ocean, where the high pressure and low temperature preserves the algae indefinitely. Eventually it is driven under ground by tectonic motion. In fact, this is precisely how much of the world's oil was produced in the first place! This requires huge quantities of nitrogen the keep the plume alive.

This can trap large quantities CO2 again, forever as far as humans are concerned.

    2) The second immediate action would be the use of aviation fuels containing extremely fine, bright white powders, like aluminum oxide. In fact, Alcoa patented this back in the 80s, IIRC. The bright white powder is mixed with the fuel, and released at high altitude when jets burn the fuel. The white particles are so small that they remain aloft for a number of years. And being bright white, they reflect incident solar radiation back into space. In a sense, it is like giving the earth a pair of sunglasses. Less energy means less warming.

Related trivia: Why do jack rabbits have big ears? It was always assumed that they acted as radiators for heat, which they do. But when the air temp is very hot, how does the lower body temp radiate to the surrounding hotter air? They point the insides of their ears at the blue sky, away from the sun. Because the average temp of space near the earth is about 50 degrees, the infrared radiation from the rabbit - heat - is transmitted into space; because heat flows from hot to cold [the second law of thermodynamics in its simplest form].

Chaim Henry Tejman M. D. is one of the best Theoretical Physicists on the planet when it
comes to certain topics.... and I do think that his reasoning here will be proven eventually to be
    accurate.

Your ideas are pheonmenally well informed but I personally am leaning in a very different direction.

In the US, I don't believe climate change is an issue of science.

Republicans are in office in the US and they aren't even slightly interested in hearing about climate change.

It's become purely political to the point that the EPA and others are not being allowed to publish their science.

We can still make some progress in individual states and cities. But, the idea of helping to build gigantic water plants in Africa so they can grow stuff is so far beyond what is politically possible as to be a fairy tale.

You are in no way qualified to make a statement like that. YOU don't know that. And on the face of what you said, it is silly. He is an MD, not a Ph.D. in physics. In fact. he never formally studied physics.

    http://www.grandunifiedtheory.org.il/contact.htm

And beyond that. I am a physicist and what he claims doesn't make sense.

What he claims fits with near death experience accounts......
which fit with String Theory, higher invisible dimensions of space - time
and even with Multiverse Theory which fits with non-linear time..... which
philosophically fits with Ezekiel chapter thirty seven not being limited to being
    a one time event.

All of us eventually end up judged by our children, grandchildren and if we write a lot
by students of the future who study what we produced.

My belief is that within a century the most well informed teachers and students of physics will
be scratching their heads as to why the people of 2019 did not realize that Chaim Henry Tejman M. D.,
was obviously very close to some colossal truths that assist with the idea of a
Grand Unified Theory that Stephen Hawking put forward some ideas on.

I've debated this with so many that I had to do a simple blog to bring readers up to speed on this
but it is actually rather simple.

    www.CarbonBias.blogspot.ca/

What he claims may not make sense to you at this time but within minutes of you passing on or
having one of those rather extensive near death experiences, (if you are allowed to remember it), you
will by that time know that Dr. Tejman's ideas are exceptionally good.

One of the best webpages for you to begin on this though is actually the NDE of Mellen Benedict
because what he reported fits with the Cyclic Model of the Universe.... and noticing that
connection is crucial to your catching onto the larger picture.

I have to admit though... the implications are kind of terrifying......
because the obvious conclusion is that a spark from the Original Creator
is inside each of us humans.........
each of us has an over soul that is astonishingly ancient........
and somehow can be regressed in time by somebody like Helen Wambach Ph. D. and Dr. Chet Snow
    for millennia........

Dr. Wambach and Dr. Snow confined their published research to merely four millennia.....
    because that was shocking enough.....
(frankly going back to the time of a worldwide flood and only eight survivors would have
lost Dr. Wambach and Dr. Snow their readership)!

If you are up for something of a scare... this may do it.....

    http://www.politicalforum.com/index...reason-is-he-onto-something-important.401732/

Basically... if we want to blame "G-d" for all the problems on earth we are going to have to face the
fact that our oversoul has reincarnated again and again and again and each time we had astonishing
power of choice to alter the future in amazing ways.........

Each of us has the capability to be much like David, Moses, John the Baptist or any other famous and courageous
leader that we would want to emulate......

Greening the deserts will have major climate effects we cannot know and likely do more damage as rainfall shifts over time, creating new deserts elsewhere as a result. The impacts of largescale desalination as well as the required logistics are politically and financially impossible. Shortsighted and ignorant decisions fed into this situation and will certainly not make it better.

Wow.... Dude...... you are really pessimistic!!!!

I have to admit that we humans have made such a mess of pretty simple decisions over the last
several millennia..... that your pessimism is logical......... but I am hopeful......and the little nation of Israel seems to hold the key to all of this..........

I believe that the severity of the mess that
we humans are in is hopeful in a similar sense to the seriousness of the mess that Moses led the Israelite slaves into at the time of the Exodus?!

If it gets significantly warmer like it was during the climatic optimum, there is no need for desalination plants to green the desert. The earth will do it naturally via evaporation and precipitation. The Sahara desert wasn't a desert at all during the holocene climatic optimum, it was a vast savannah teeming with life.

Humanity thrives during warm periods. It's the cold periods that are disastrous for humanity.

But all of these global warming nutters are hardcore leftists who seem to have a vehement hatred for humanity. They're the same ones who say the Earth is overpopulated. Are they ETs or something?

I am not a pessimist Dennis, I am a realist. I am not prone to the imaginings and fantasy realities that seem to drive your ideas but instead rely on fact and research to form opinion. Thus do I tend to provide useful and pertinent data vs. pointless and semi entertaining diatribe.

    That is an EXCELLENT question!!!!!

I attempted to teach the word "Neo- Malthusian" to Canadians by connecting it to an event in 1974 that can be argued may well have been the most off the scale astonishingly unwise decision made by a sitting Canadian Prime Minister in the last seventy years!!! (I attemped to put a somewhat positive spin on it though for several reasons.... one of which is to make it appealing to a different audience)!

Did P. M. Pierre E. Trudeau save the world environment?

I see, so like all CAGW doomsday cult members, the proclamations of your left-wing messiahs, Al Gore and Charles Manson, override actual science.

" Our polar caps are melting because we're doing bad things to the atmosphere,"~~ quoted from Charles Manson.

Manson is typical of you nutjobs.

I gave the indisputable scientific facts. Unlike you, I'm an actual scientist.

The scientific fact of the matter is that the Sahara was not always a desert. During the holocene climatic optimum, because the climate was much warmer than our current climate, it was green and thriving.

So piss off and go cry to your fellow doomsday cult members.

Congratulations, you have just started another ice age.

At this time, one of the biggest contenders for what causes an ice age relates to ocean salinity.

Dump more fresh water into the ocean, and it will rise to the surface because it is less dense than salt water. This then affects the natural thermalclines of the ocean (differing temperatures of water in relation to depth and currents). The top layer tends to stagnate more, which also tends to slow the thermal conveyor process at lower depths. This slows the global currents, causing water to stay in place for longer periods of time.

At equatorial regions, this causes temperatures to increase. That means more tropical storms, increasing the amount of water in the atmosphere, greater humidity levels, more cloud cover.

And this is when the second effect kicks in. Salt water has a much lower freezing point than fresh water does. This is why it needs to get a hell of a lot colder to freeze ocean water than it does fresh water. By lowering the salinity (by starting a cycle that ultimately pours more fresh water into the oceans) you have made it easier to freeze the polar regions. More humidity, more clouds, lower freezing point of sea water, more tropical storms, you have just introduced most of the factors that are believed to be involved in starting ice ages.

Throw in a bit of higher than normal volcanic action, and we are ice chest bound.

It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature!

Think about 'cause and effect'. Think about 'action and reaction'

Everything on Earth is intertwined and basically a fine-tuned machine. Climate change scenarios are not about 20-30 degree changes...they are about 1-5 degree changes. It has taken Earth about 4.5 billion years to find this equilibrium, and mankind has meddled in this equilibrium, now mankind thinks it can just 'cool some deserts'?
