In a democracy the society is the government so the society is making the choice
We have been hearing for several years how health care reform will create "death panels", "rationing", raise costs, reduce coverage, create unemployment among medical staffs, etc.
All these made up stories from the right wing appeal to people's emotions rather than then their of rationality and all have been proven to be nothing but propaganda lies.
That has to be the most simplistic definition of a democracy I've ever seen. Perhaps we should return to being a Republic instead?
We are a republic. A democratic republic which is a form of democracy
Funny thing about the forum right wingers - they come up with all sorts of prophecies, none of which ever turn out to be true. Then when asked for "proof" of their ridiculous claims, they clam up and fail to provide even the slightest evidence for them.
It has been that way since I first entered this forum and it has never changed.
When will these right wingers ever learn to post the TRUTH rather than partisan anti-USA propaganda?
LOL, typical "progressive". You would be willing to spend as much of other peoples money as required to meet your politics.
Would you spend as much as required of your own money to keep a stranger alive? Even if it takes all of your money and you have to sell your house and car and computer, and eat rice and beans every night?
If your answer is yes, then do it. Sell all your possessions except the base minimum, work multiple jobs, stop wasting time on this forum and use that time to get a third job, and use all your income to buy health care for the sick and poor.
Or are you a hypocrite like all progs?
Helping to keep a sick person alive is not politics.....it is humanity. I love people who say this is hypocritical. Do you think Isis is a threat? When do you ship out and join the fight? Or is that just for OTHER people. LOL
Of course its not free.
Its very expensive. Not only taxpayers have to pay for it, but insurance premiums go up significantly. Physicians have to pay for it in reduced wages, poorer working conditions, and more time spent on paperwork and responding to govt "oversight". Medical equipment manufacturers have lower wages, less incentive to innovate, and more "oversight". Patients also pay by having less time with the doctor, increased pain from medical mistakes due to harried and overworked medical staff.
Govt intrusion into health care created the problems to begin with, increased govt intrusion through obamacare and the absurd concept of govt run single payer only makes it worse.
And the upside is more people live and have a better quality of life. Worth every penny
You did not answer the question.
You wrote you would "spend whatever is necessary to keep you alive from taxpayer money". How much do you really care about that other person? Do you care only as long as its other peoples money you are spending, but when you have to "spend whatever is necessary" out of your own pocket then that sick person isn't so important anymore?
If you really cared that much, you would sell all your possessions, get multiple jobs, and use all your income to help those people in need. But you don't care that much. Like all progs, you only care as far as other peoples money will go. As soon as it causes some inconvenience to you, you stop "caring".
I noticed you did not answer the question either. Hey.....I guess we have something in common!
Remember that next time government is run by the party you oppose.
Actually, the U.S.A. is a Constitutional Republic in which a democratic process is applied by the people in electing persons to 'represent' them, and their views, NOT to think for them.
I've yet to see any sound rational reasoning entitling someone to costly healthcare beyond what they can afford, although I do support the use of private charity to provide assistance with funds acquired from those who have given by their own free choice.
If the purpose of government is not to keep its citizens alive then what good is it?
Perhaps because the war at home has become a larger threat.
So we should not be fighting Isis? Good to know
Should I laugh or cry? The latter is impossible as I can't stop the prior.
It should spend its resources to try. It is the best money the government can ever spend
If they are on our soil, yes we should, but we have more than Isis to fight if our once great nation is to survive.
It seems just about everyone disagrees with you. Lol
Are free lunch programs at school really free?
Think about it.
Is there anything in the world that's actually free?
Think about it.
When the USA gets to the point that most of the people can only eat rice and beans every night, we can revisit your worries.
But as long as we are the wealthiest nation in the world, we can afford to give people medical treatment. No need to let a kid die of diabetes because the parent has no money.
Idaho governor - don't expand Medicaid as people are going to die anyway:
Idaho's Republican legislature ended a long and typically insane session this week having doneand not donetwo notable things. First, it overthrew a decades-long concealed weapons permit system that no one had argued was broken to allow permitless concealed carry by anyone 21 or older. Bully for them. The truly egregious failure, however, was continuing to allow 78,000 people in the state who fall in the Medicaid gap to stay there.
Oh, there were lots of pats on their own backs by leadership, who congratulated themselves mightily for moving "from an issue that we werent talking about and said that we were not going to take up, that we have in a very meaningful way" started talking about it. Because that's as much as you could hope for in the four years since the Supreme Court ruled states had an option in taking the expansion. In another four years, who knows, they might have an actual bill come to the floor only to fail.
But the real jeers in this have to be saved for Gov. Butch Otter, who just can't be convinced that not having health insurance is any kind of big deal.
Otter said he was disappointed they did not go forward on closing that gap. But he said he did not totally agree with the claim some have made that Idahoans are dying because they fall in the gap.
I see plenty of people that die every day in hospitals and they have insurance, Otter said. And theyre in the hospital. But they still die.
Otter said multiple times that people without insurance have healthcare options such as the Terry Reilly clinics. He said he is not considering calling a special legislative session to address the health coverage gap.
That's the kind of thinking that most Republicans got over voicing out loud years ago.
"They can always go to the emergency room" has fallen by the wayside as a Republican argument for leaving millions uninsured. It just doesn't work anymore, not when Obamacare has proven successful not just at providing coverage, but also at saving lives.
But out here in Idaho, Republicans are slow on the uptake, and they have the advantage of whats essentially a one-party government. But if you could secretly survey Republicans everywhere on what they think about poor people and health insurance, this is what you'd hear back: They're all going to die anywaymight as well be sooner as later.
"let them die!" - seems like it's the pro life Republican motto
Not for long.
Again you don't answer the question.
If its worth "every penny", then why don't you give "every penny" you have. Or do you just mean its worth "every penny" as long as its not your pennies? Your "care" exists only as long as it does not inconvenience you.

You got on your high horse about how much you care. So prove it. Sell your possessions, stop wasting time on this forum and get another job, and use all your income and wealth to save all those lives you claim you care so much about.
Or is it that you only care as far as other peoples money will take you?
Let me answer your question directly. No I will not spend a single penny of my money. I just want tax money used for this purpose. There. That is as clear an answer as it gets. Now you will run away and not answer my question because you are a hypocrite. See ya.
