Republicans are on opening the economy now. My question is is opening the economy alone enough to counteract the economic damage over the past 3 months?

Will the economy make up enough ground to cover a likely resurgence in the fall?

The economy has nothing to do with the virus. It won't affect it at all. It is merely the crisis the world created to fight another crisis. The economy is not the engine of fighting the virus, it is the victim of it.

So opening up alone is enough at this point? What about the small businesses that won't be able to open up? What about when fall rolls around and everyone freaks out again?

Enough for what? We need to open up because creating a crisis to fight another crisis is stupid. Businesses can't survive to fall.

Don’t know if it will make a total come back by the third qtr, but by the end of the year likely...and certain by next year if we don’t make a mistake in Biden somehow winning

Do you see a dip in the 4th quarter? I also question how that's possible with fewer employers in the economy now than before this all started.

Is it possible to be a Republican and be for opening up AND doing more to help the economy?

Good luck getting a comprehensive answer to your question.

I certainly don't have any answers, but it will be entertaining to watch the responses.

Let's simplify the economy like this:

Let's say the economy is like Usain Bolt and he broke his ankle. Do you expect him to run at the same pace as before? Or should you give him a handicap so he can keep up?

Republicans expect to open a wounded economy and it run well and not need more help. Well not all Jerome Powell thinks they need to do more but what does he know right?????

Exactly and I can't see for the life of me how opening up is enough. Of course we need to open up and now but I think it's very naive to think that'll be enough.

    No I don’t see a dip in the 4th

I don’t know I guess it depends on what you mean for more to help the economy. There is another relief package coming down the line.

With a vaccine a year or 2 away Restaurants, Gyms, and all establishments will reduce their customer Floor space by 50 %

Most business are not able to profit with a continuous 50 % drop in sales

Add to that a lot of customers will not feel safe until a Safe and tested vaccine is available

I have as yet to see ANY Republican president in my lifetime leave our economy better off than when they took it over.

Looks like this one is on track to do the same.

I'm listening to Bill o'Reilly's update and he's saying 8 million peoples mortgages are in foreclosure and by next month it may go up to 15 million. We have 15% unemployment too so I think opening up alone is like putting a bandaid on a severed limb

Corona is. Corona is a type of virus that’s been around for a long long time. This is just one strain

    I haven’t a clue.

Although I saw a map today. All 50 states are reopening, 3 states meet the administration’s criteria to open, 17 states are on their way to meet them, and 30 states aren’t close.

My guess is we’ll stumble along. The people—you and me—need to feel comfortable and there is no evidence we’re close.

Pretending we can just flip a switch IMO is naive.

Plus, the state’s all lost a quarter of their revenue and most if not all have balanced budget amendments in their constitutions. If they don’t get assistance it’s going to get ugly.

So that means you think the virus will come back in the fall during flu season right?

You dont think people and businesses will freak out again at least once more when that happens? Thatd translate to another dip in the market right?

You should bold this. Your right on the mark

I have no idea if this strain will or not. If If it does we will be better prepared since we have developed treatments for it and know more about it.

If it does and I think the rate of transmission says it probably will I'd think that people will scare again maybe not to this degree but enough to negatively impact the economy again. When you couple the previous damage done plus the likely potential damage I dont see a way where just opening up is enough.

Well all I've heard is "open up" and McConnell saying "we'll wait and see if another round is needed". That sorts leads to an inference
