The kerfuffle between Canada and Saudi Arabia may well call attention to a much deeper and more serious problem....... that frankly may have its origins in the approach that President Obama may well have had to international relations. People can change.... and I am hopeful that P. M. Justin Trudeau may well make a major and serious flip back toward Saudi Arabia........ .and away from his support of the regime in Iran....... if that in fact is what he has been doing? (Saudi Arabia sure seems to me to be making more progress toward extending more rights toward women and minorities than Iran has been doing).

Historically speaking, Iran has been much more open toward women's rights than Saudi Arabia has even been. True, the revolution of 1979 or so, did change that rather dramatically, but Iran is still more of a modern country than Saudi Arabia. If the U.S. had better relations with Iran, we could be more of an influence on them and perhaps encourage them toward more liberal human rights positions. Moving SA in that direction is like watching fingernails grow.
