The party was over. As I sit rereading The Great Gatsby amid the COVID-19 lockdowns, that phrase sticks with me . . . we’ve all got a chance to do some soul-searching about what really matters, a chance to reflect on just exactly what the “party” was and whether we want to resume it when life returns to normal. Popularity, pleasure, success start to feel pretty empty when I can’t have a beer with my best friend or hug my mom. — Kelly Scott Franklin, The National Review, June 1, 2020.

Has the pandemic changed your perspective on what is important in life? Have you become less materialistic or less ambitious? Or perhaps you think COVID-19 was a conspiracy to destroy the American Way of Life and you are ready to return to business as usual.

The pandemic has confirmed many of my worst suspicions. I already knew that it is easier to fool a man than it is to explain to him how he has been fooled, and I already knew that the American masses are most gullible and easily led, and I already knew that a populace driven by fear will do all sorts of crazy things, but this plandemic takes the cake.

A terrific job by the perpetrators, a very shameful display by so many.

I can honestly say I don't think it has had any impact at all on my Outlook.

I'm pretty much the same person doing the same stuff every day, except I wear a mask at the store. Others, but not many that I know have totally gone a different route.

Ps... the news is awful, repetitive and boring.

Partying is over for a while that's for sure. My life has remained relatively unaffected. For fun we mt bike and hike, my wife gardens and I work in my woods. We never ate out much or went to bars so thats no big deal. Biggest effect this had on me was I had a white water raft trip planned that had to be cancelled due to everyone being shuttled in a small bus from the end of the trip back to our vehicles.
Other than that we wear mask in town and sanitize our hands a lot. That's about it.

I was in boulder co. A couple weeks ago, the rafting there had just opened back up

Agree on dining out, was rare for me anyway, maybe 3x a month. Bars? Almost never, I think in went to a bar in 2019 with another couple and watched a football game (which is also not my thing) and $50+tip later I told the wife "well now I remember why I don't go to bars"

Covid has allowed me to engage in my antisocial impulses without a need to explain not wanting to go out and do things I guess.
