Increased employment and consumer spending are failures? I'd love to see what success looks like then.

Finding jobs isn't the point. No jobs existing to find is the point. Increased employment comes from freedom to volunteer and start labor of love businesses. A UBI is supposed to help people escape the rat maze, it's not going to move wage slave numbers much if at all.

You said it increased employment. Prove it.

Increased employment by new labor of love businesses. Try reading everything next time.

So you can't.......gotcha. It was deemed a failure and ended.

And yet, increased business creation and consumer spending... You can find failures but they're a minority. And where you do find true failures, it's becuase the UBI wasn't anything close to being universal, means testing was done and a hard limit on how long the money would be given out was announced ahead of time. Like putting lights in a roundabout then claiming roundabouts make traffic worse.

In that case, why not just use regular welfare? Why another special program that pays people who are actually employed?

Oh, probably because if it isn't universal, the fiscal conservatives will be groaning and moaning about entitlements to able-bodied (poor) adults.

So therefore, give entitlements to everyone....sorry I don't understand your argument.

O, well, my view of your proposal for welfare is that I like it, but if the able-bodied up poor people end up using the program, then the GOP will use them as the poster children of entitlement.

I'm not sure how to explain it. Just that it will be used to cut welfare. And, propaganda that fiscal conservatives will eat up. Taxpaying conservatives.

You're right. You don't know how to explain it. Saying you are creating another welfare program "that it will be used to cut welfare," doesn't make any sense to me.

I think the real issue is that UBI supporters want free money. That's it. No reason, they just want free money, so they tried to attach it to a real issue, like the effect of automation on jobs, and claim that by giving me free money, I'll be fine without a job. I'll spend an entire lifetime retired.

Sorry it sounds idiotic to me.

Yang doesn't matter. Only three private jets can combust out of Iowa and still be in the race.

Time was when Americans universally understood that the path to a better life was good character, hard work, and determination.

Now, half of all Americans are whiny pouters who get "triggered" by words, throw public tantrums, and demand that other people give them free stuff.

    Pathetic.

There wouldn't be any welfare. It's either or, at least under Yang's plan.

Alaska would be the best example. Not technically a UBI as $1k/year isn't a basic income but it has boosted the state economy and discouraged brain drain. There was also a program in Alberta that sa w a 30% increase in spending and reduced HS dropout rates and only ended becuase idiots like yourself killed it out of spite.

It keeps them in the economy with their needs met. It does not employ them.

I suppose it could be viewed as welfare because there is progressively less and less work. By making it an entitlement the stigma is removed.

    Understood.

But our entire western society can easily be termed idiotic, or WORSE.

Perhaps those not working for money will WANT to do good things with their time that benefit everyone.

Should we tell them how to spend it?

Humanity is at a new intersection of development.

I've read Yang's plan and I don't recall anything about that. Are you saying the social safety net would be eliminated and there would only be UBI? No SNAP, no subsidized school lunches, no cash benefits, no Medicaid?

    You'll have to show me.

OK so it's just more welfare, just as I said.
