My city is not currently on lockdown due to the coronavirus, or as they politely refer to it "shelter in place". The city my son lives in 22 miles away is on lockdown until April 1st. So, it's probably just a matter of time before they lockdown this city also. Would being on lockdown be difficult for you?
Restaurants are only allowed half capacity with tables 6 ft apart. Bars are closed and large events, postponed.
yep... mostly just grocery stores, pharmacies & take out food joints are open. no dine-in allowed. they just closed all the malls as well... andrew also just announced all businesses/offices must comply with 75% of their employees must be 'work at home'
Panic is the order of the day. to be safe i went out yesterday and bought whatever I could to hunker down and not have to go out as rumors abound that the state of Colorado will be shut down soon. Probably tonight or tomorrow. Still no paper towels or toilet paper anywhere to be found. Zero sanitizer, bare bones can goods, but funny, I should have taken a picture, the entire produce department bare, but a bunch of beets. I guess most people hate beets. Wal Mart does have hundreds of boxes of Peeps however. I might just corner the market on Peeps then people will have to come to me on bended knee to get their Peeps.
Yes, the Wal-Mart here has been stripped of all paper products, dairy foods, eggs, most canned goods, and over the counter medicines. I found paper towels and toilet paper at the local Family Dollar store today. A clerk had told my daughter that Thursday is their delivery day, so I was there as soon as they opened. My son bought me two cases of bottled water a few days ago. So, I think I'll be OK. P.S. Are Peeps those little chocolate candies that go in Easter baskets?
Well, it's not a city but a town in France. You have to have a self-certification form to go to the food store or pharmacie. All the shops, bars and restuarants are closed.
OK. The schools here are closed until April 13th. Shops are open. Library is open but only 10 people at a time can enter. Fast food places are open, but only for drive thru and take out; no eating inside the restaurant. I think the movie theater is closed.
My grandson works at a fancy restaurant. He is being laid off for 6 days because the restaurant is closed until Monday. Fortunately, he is single---nobody to support but himself.
Still advisory here in the UK. Pubs and restaurants haven't been told to shut but people are being told to avoid them. More and more things are disappearing from the supermarket shelves but rationing is in full force now with most shops restricting customers to 2 or 3 units per customer. The pub I'm working at is still open but pretty quiet. Booking are down to 8 for Mother's day on Sunday rather than the usual 100+. Schools shut tomorrow, probably until September.
Schools, restaurants, and bars are closed here, our stores still have paper products and little noticable decrease in traffic out on the highway. On the plus side somethings are totally unchanged. My outside cats have initiated their annual chipmunk genocide. Finding heads and tails by the door...
Not yet, yet being the word; there's rumor of a lockdown coming and there's also rumor parts of London are on lockdown. London's said to be 2 weeks before any part of the country though with covid-19 - that was on the news, but there's a rumor that we're 2 weeks behind Italy. I see on the news people in restaurants and bars and pubs defying advice while supermarkets have empty shelves as they're building our temporary morgue (one of many in cities in the UK). My class I'm on is private so it's still open and the teacher's showing symptoms carrying on like nothing coughing and high fiveing me on Tuesday (the day I met him); it's now Friday and I'm trying my best to see if I'm showing symptoms or not, and he's still coming to work and I have to see him tomorrow and.... Monday might be postponed if/when we're told not to come. I'm self isolating myself from public transport because I can just walk to and from class which is okay, like a 30 minute walk since I'm also not in a rush because I'm afraid of getting it in this classroom with this teacher showing symptoms. My walk is through my neighborhood, then through the town's big cemetery to take me to another part of town everyday; so everyday I'm reminded of death; which is cool and tranquil and relaxing and I even say hello to tombstones now, getting to know them on my walk; it's meant to be a 2 week course and this was my first week.
This isn't a hurricane or earthquake where a city's water supply can become contaminated. Why is there a big rush on bottled water? That makes only a little less sense than a run on toilet paper...
I'm in St. Augustine, Florida. Bars are closed. Most restaurants have gone to delivery and take out only. Schools are closed. Tourist trolleys (the absolute bane of my existence) are all off the streets. The Castillo de San Marcos is closed. Many of the local tourist traps are closed. My bank just went to drive-thru and lobby appointments only. I can't just walk in there tomorrow and hope to do business at the teller window. There are, though, some bars which are remaining open. These are over closer to the beach. They're staying open until midnight. I figure it'll get a bit worse, with regards to business no longer being open, before it gets better.
The most crowded places are the grocery stores. One day this week, people were made to get in a line outside the store and wait until a certain number of customers inside left the store. That was about 10 minutes. Once inside, no eggs, no rice, no pasta, no beans, no cheese, no paper, no cat litter. I don't mind changing my diet for a while to Peeps and hot sauce, but the cats, I expect, will continue to pee and poop.
whats sickening is bezos is going to triple his worth because of these lockdowns... it just might be the end of brick & mortar stores...
Even Amazon shut down a distribution center in New York because an employee tested positive. https://r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=AwrE1x5iInReSUIAihBXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTEyY2czNXMxBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDQTA2MjJfMQRzZWMDc2M-/RV=2/RE=1584698082/RO=10/RU=https://uk.news.yahoo.com/coronavirus-amazon-worker-tests-positive-160340190.html/RK=2/RS=mTxSXHi46WsP3x5RcB9E1qUXDf8- Meanwhile, Peeps for me, poops for kitties!
I stopped at a pet supply store today which was surprisingly open. The city has a restriction on any "gathering" of 10 people or more (excluding groceries and some businesses). I did finally get 2 - 40 lb boxes of cat litter.
In my little town of (guessing) 1000 people, its almost like theres no virus at all. I saw one business closed due to 'recommended self quaratine' and I figure we have about 1/2 as much vehicle traffic through town as normal. The post office is no longer conducting otc business- PO boxes only. But the convenience store is open, the gun store is open, the bar is open, kids (with school closed) are out skateboarding and its no less quiet than usual.
Dont want to "like" the post but minimal to no impact is best but this wont be the case, for a good number.
Restaurants are carry out and drive thru only. Grocery stores are about the only place open. We are not confined to quarters, but with no place to go, we keep to ourselves. I'm still working, but I work by myself anyway. The only thing I changed is that I don't shake my customers' hands and I use hand sanitizer every time I get into my truck. We don't eat out anymore either.
