No hand soap, they had bar soap, they had a lot of stuff but there was a lot of stuff they didn't have, like chicken portions (breasts and drumsticks) but they had chicken wings instead.

    This sucks.

The first thing you do when you reach home is to shower/bath, first point of call, when you come in from going out, shower/bath; soap and hot water; covid 19 can live on your hair and on your skin so don't touch your face and it can jump when someone infected speaks sneezes or coughs so keep your distance and maybe more body language/sign language and wear a face mask if you can and the new norm is to before you even sit down, have a bath or shower and also regularly disinfect handles switches knobs locks bars rails equipment too, tables and chairs too etc.

Yeah, if you buy four cases and use four cases, that's not stockpiling. Buying an extra case or two would give you some reserve, though, should the unforeseen occur.

When I go shopping, I'll buy extra canned goods; maybe two or three cans every other time I shop, and those go into plastic bins in the garage...

It's rationed here depending on where you go; no more than 4, or, no more than 2 now.
Multipack yes, case of, no, unless it's a unit/case, then you can have as many as you're allowed by the shop.
Shop with some consideration, and buy only what you need, long queues to get in.
Don't think I saw a shopping trolley/cart out, was all hand baskets only if memory serves, ' could be wrong, but now that I think about it.

Essential stores are open, everything else closed this week and thousands of people have lost their jobs. Beaches closed yesterday so you can't even go for a 20min walk on the beach because some people refuse to adhere to social distancing rules.

The kids have adjusted well, especially after the initial invincibility rebellion. They both are keeping busy with Udemy and other courses and exercise programs, my son is attempting Chris Hemsworth's workout free for a month or so because of the virus.

My husband is still working so we're a bit exposed via him... I'm also still working from home as usual so not all that much have changed for me.

We're not on total lockdown still. Restaurants and Bars are closed for onsite. Lots of the ones that were doing take-out, that weren't really set up before, have stopped. Lots of non-essential stores close. Big box stores open. Groceries open and well stocked except for paper products still, hopefully the hoarders will all be hoarded up soon and they can start having some stock on the shelves for the more rational people.

I couldn't vote because we Americans don't even know what a "lockdown" actually is!

We have lots of places now with various kinds of 'mandatory', temporary closures that are supposed to be enforced -- more or less. But an actual LOCKDOWN, including a mandatory quarantine, and an order that states, "remain-in-your-fugging-house-or-you'll-be-arrested!"...? Naw, nothing like that at all. And, so the virus will continue to spread for as long as it wants to.... La-dee-dah.... :spin:

Traffic was visibly reduced on the way to and from work yesterday for the first time since the city ordinance passed last Wednesday. On Friday, it seemed to be 50% heavier, as I suppose people resist being "locked down" and/or were stockpiling for the weekend.

Shelves are still pretty empty, requiring people to shop much more often to get the same basic products that they would normally get in one single shopping trip.

I finally found eggs "for normal people" yesterday, versus the "fancy people" eggs that cost 3-4 times as much (which I've only seen available one time in 3 weeks).

Walgreens, of all places, ran advertising on "buy one get one free" eggs and a good sale on toilet paper. I stopped at one store on the way to work and they had sold out of both eggs and all brands of TP (as expected). I took a different route home and stopped at a different location. No TP (of any brand), but they had EGGS! I was absolutely giddy. Over eggs.

Things we used to take for granted...

    LOL!!

I paid $1.65 a gallon for gas yesterday. Honestly, I think the last time I saw a price that low was back in the late 1980's when I was living in Charleston, SC. In 2916 I paid $1.89 a gallon up in Myrtle Beach, SC, but that shot back up over two bucks a gallon in under a week...

Brookshires had a mountain of eggs. I own an egg factory. I haven't bought eggs in 3 years.

The year should be 2016, not 2916.

Wonder why I couldn't just edit it...?

    Okay, rub it in. :p

Backyard chickens are legal in the city of Austin, but everyone I know who had them at one time gave them away to people who lived outside Austin or otherwise stopped keeping them. Neighbors called city ordinance officers on them for breaking the city's "noisy animal" code, and they were threatened by the city to either get the chickens to be quiet or face hundreds of dollars in city fines and get rid of the chickens.

Know any place I can get some chickens which don't talk much? The city apparently allows up to 12 quiet chickens (no roosters allowed - for obvious reasons).

I topped off my tank last Friday at $1.62. Yesterday I saw gas priced at $1.49.

Hens are pretty quiet, except when they are laying. You need ventilation, but maybe you could semi sound proof your coop. They typically only lay in the coop. Let me know and I'll try to come up with a design. It'll probably involve foam egg crate around the vents and the ceiling. Maybe smaller vents with muffin fans to increase airflow. I'll have to think about it.

Thank you for the offer, but I decided several years ago not to try backyard chickens.

I'm sure the current local egg shortage is not because everyone gave away their chickens. I just can't figure out what everyone is doing with 100 times more eggs than they were buying 3 weeks ago. Wrapping them up in toilet paper, thinking that will extent the expiration date maybe.

People are cooking more instead of eating out. I'm starting to see eggs in the stores again.

My city and county are lockdown light, which means if you have everything you need and no errands to run then please stay home and about 60%-70% are listening.

I'm not essential, that I'm aware of, nobody has told me yes or no, I'm working from home then going to the office for a couple hours here and there. My office strip has 3-4 cars in it, typically it's about 15.

I've stepped up my egg game, so I'm guilty.

Before stay at home, maybe 2 eggs a week, now I'm probably up to 7-8, sorry but im bored and have time to cook a real breakfast every day vs a quick bowl of cereal. I have not had cereal in 10 days or so.

I was buying 4 dozen eggs "about" every 3 weeks, mainly because the grocery made people buy 4 to get the discount. I feed my pets (3 cats, 1 dog) a raw diet which includes egg yolks as a nutrition supplement, which took 22-24 eggs a month. I was probably eating about 3 dozen a month. It's funny now, that I never paid too much attention to how much of this or that product I used, until I couldn't find products on the shelf. Now trying to stock up or restock has become impossible.

I read that in one week, grocery store egg demand ran at 180% of normal and over several weeks it's up 150%. I'm reading articles that people staying home, particularly with children, are "stress baking" cakes. They're baking cakes for comfort, and that's emptying the shelves of eggs and flour. Sigh.

Anyway, I have found eggs recently, and have about two and half dozen in the fridge. I'll just pick up one or two dozen when I can find them.

My newest grocery challenge is that I'm about to run out of the affordable store brand of instant coffee. The last jar I bought was the expensive name brand and I don't want to have to pay almost double. Very likely that manufactures which used to have extra capacity to put the same product in a jar with a store-brand label, no longer have that extra capacity.

Food is definitely getting more expensive, when you can find it, and that's a problem with unemployment numbers skyrocketing.

Work from home, have groceries delivered, phone and text family and friends, catching up on projects I’d found excuses to put off.

Staying at home hasn’t been a problem though I’m contemplating ordering a PlayStation to introduce some baseball into my days. Obviously I need to finish my projects first. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

The Apache Rez down the road has a 10 pm curfew, and if you’re not a tribal member, you can’t stop there. We had two cases in town, but both people recovered. The eateries only do take out, but the grocery stores, and gas stations are still open. Farmers are planting cotton, and the mine is still open. So with the exception of some minor inconveniences, life hasn’t changed much.

    Is your city on lockdown?

What city is that? There are a couple small towns within 15 miles. I haven't seen any disruption of normality around here. Our business is up a little. That is probably true for all e-merchants. Grocery stores are making a killing. I don't eat at restaurants so I can't say whether any are closed or not. Actually there aren't many around here. The hay field is green and growing and attracting a herd of deer that come here to feed. They seem happy. Things are pretty normal. I do appreciate the increase in business.
