Simple question. Is YouTube pushing an agenda? Watch the video and then vote. Note that I'm not going to suggest an agenda or anything else like it in this first post (I reserve the right to later of course ;) ). I want people to watch the video and make up their own minds.

For those that can't watch it right now, take all the time you want, the thread isn't going anywhere and I'm sure that you can find a little less than 14 minutes out of your day to watch the video if you wish to participate.

You Tube try to shove Mainstream media down our throats when I specifically go on there to AVOID mainstream media...probably the reason I never click on the Trending tab.

When Google purchased You Tube everyone said they were going to ruin it... and they did. Their moderation is biased and reflects their own political and ideological views...I would love for my favourite You Tubers to move elsewhere

they want to control the content if that is what you mean, once they added commercials, the advertisers are the ones really wanting to control the content

youtube should have said, advertise or don't, cause the advertisers would not of went away, but instead they are bowing to them

There are a few, someone on here suggested Bitchute but as of now there's really no competition to You Tube... which is very unhealthy for the industry

Twitch, DLive, Vimeo are a few. They all have their own problems of course but at this point in time I don't think any of those problems are near as bad as what YT does. YT tries to steer content towards "preferred" content...their "preferred" content. At least those other sites don't do that...that I know of. DLive for instance has their system set up where the streams are based on current viewers. The more viewers you have at the moment the higher you are on the list. Problem with them is that after awhile past content gets erased so if you don't stay current you have no way of catching up on what you've missed.

I don't think that the advertisers cared about the content. UNTIL the PC Police and SJW's started hollering. And that was just because the PC Police and SJW's wanted to punish anyone that didn't toe their line. They kept making the false statement that if an Advertiser was shown on X YTubers video then that advertiser was endorsing that YTubers content, even though the algorithm had assigned those advertisements based on tags like "gaming" etc etc. (more complicated but you get the drift). This was done to force those advertisers to "care" because it affected their bottom line. So I wouldn't really blame the advertisers in the way that you are. I'd blame the SJW's and PC Police. Though you can blame the advertisers for bending their knee to them. ;)

The inquisitive and suspicious mind is going to avoid mainstream media like the plague, having already had a bellyful of that trash. They can't control that.

It doesn't come up much for me as I don't waste time clicking on it, but they do keep trying.

I do try to avoid biased mainstream media like fox and msnbc, but it does seem like youtube is trying to give them an unfair advantage on youtube to me

agree, have never used that feature either, but have notice my recommended videos doesn't seem as good as it once was

would be nice to be able to add concepts to ignore from the list too, add to the ai's decision-making process

my recommendations should be based on who I subscribe too and who I thumbs up\down

yep, the left complains about commercials of far right stuff and the right complains about commercials of far left stuff - the people want their commercials to go to the right place and not offend anyone on either side - I mean come on, the right complains about stupid stuff too, remember the red starbucks coffee cups

I agree we need to get away from the ads support the content or the content supports the advertiser, ads are ads - both are separate - but youtube needs to make that clear to people, so advertisers can say, we have no control over that, once youtube allowed them to decide, then they feel they have to make a effort to control it

if we want more content, isolate the advertisers from the content, give them an out - YouTube can take the heat as there is no real competition and when it becomes the norm, no one will care and it's more profitable to content makers and youtube anyways

Yes. It’s “What will make us the most money?”.

We hear these kind of complaints about how YouTube works all the time and I think it so often misses that fundamental point. There is a tendency among many major users of the internet, such as independent YouTube creators, to see the internet as this free public platform for everyone but ignore the fact that much of it simply wouldn’t exist without a whole bunch of fairly conventional commercial organisations. Many creators seem to be operating under the impression that they have some implicit human right to (at least) equal treatment by YouTube compared to the “mainstream” channels the video talks about and (maybe unfortunately) that simply isn’t true. YouTube is perfectly entitled to favour the mainstream channels for pretty much any reason it wants and, from a business point of view, is all but required to favour them is that is deemed commercially advantageous because ultimately, the group of people they need to keep happy aren’t creators or users, it’s their shareholders (they need to keep users and creators happy too, but only as a means to that end).

Now that isn’t to say that I think everything YouTube does is good (even to themselves sometimes) and I there is as much a disconnect from YouTube management and decision makers about the users and creators as there is the other way. They’d probably all be better off if they had a clearer and more rational understanding of each other. The basic fact remains that if you’re going to try to understand why anything happens on the internet, much as with anything that happens in the real world, you need to follow the money.

I suspect YouTube generally makes more advertising money from the “mainstream” videos that trend. Some “non-mainstream” channels and individual videos may well blow-up and be hugely successful but on a general day-to-day, mainstream is likely to be the safer commercial route. And so on that basis, they will seek to promote that commercial positive through the various tools they have, including all the ways they can influence and manipulate the trending tab.

If you already saw it on the telescanner why would anybody want to choose it again on youtube?

I don't the common, mundane stuff. I'm looking for that rare pearl.

I'm not sure where "need" comes in to it. We (in general) don't need video entertainment at all and YouTube doesn't need to do anything other than make money within the law.

I don't think you can entirely separate the advertising from the context in sits around, especially on-line and especially with an ever growing market in focused and targeted advertising in general. I think YouTube would loose business to other platforms and providers if it stopped supporting advertisers with targeting their adverts, even considering the occasional controversy (controversies sometimes artificially spun up for advertising purposes in the first place). As I said in a previous reply, I think this is primarily about some people having an unrealistic idea of how the internet can actually work in practice.

Do we want more content? This complaint isn't about there not being enough content, only that "their" content is getting more promotion than "our" content.

It's certainly harder to find conservative content if you search by topic.

Google itself is extremely left biased. It's basically the worst place to find any political information.

I believe that they, along with the major news networks are internationally misleading the American people to get them to conform to the progressive agenda.
I believe that if their misinformation campaign doesn't work they will force us to submit by the power that comes from government guns.

Modern day Democrats are no different than any other socialist revolutionaries.

They don't want to take our guns, they want gun owners out of their way, aka dead.
