A silly little slap to cover your exit? Winning makes right, but I'm the moral relativist?

Go and find enlightenment, my son.

Well, to be fair, the same shell game is played by Muslims.

Many claim that the veil is part of Muslim identity, and yet, when people bring up the oppression associated with the veil, they then mention that the veil predates Islam and isn't necessary to be worn by Muslim women.

Simply put, the veil is a cultural practice, and therefore, it shouldn't have the same protections as a religious practice in terms of things like discrimination.

As for Jews, some people are ethnically Jewish, while others aren't.

Granted, being ethnically Jewish doesn't necessarily mean you believe in Judaism. A lot of ethnic Jews are Christian or atheist.

Yep, if you are not an ethnic jew (through the mother) you can become one through a formal religious conversion...It's indeed a tad different from other religions and ethnicities so I am not particularly supprised that feeble brains of the jew-hating mob are not able to grasp such a still relatively simple concept.

HUH - ? Looks like you're clutching at straws.

What's the veil got to do with what we're discussing
However , IMO no different to : "Jewish law requires married women to cover their hair;[3][4] according to the Talmud this is a biblical requirement,[5][6] which in this context is called dat Moshe (the law of Moses).[7][8] The most common hair coverings in the Haredi community are the sheitel (wig), the snood, and the mitpachat (Hebrew: scarf) or tichel (Yiddish); some Haredi women cover their hair covering with an additional hat or beret. The practice of covering hair with wigs, or detached hair, is debated among halachic authorities. Many authorities, including Rabbi Moshe Feinstein,[9] permitted it, and the Lubavitcher Rebbe actively encouraged it,[10] while some authorities forbid it. Observance of this law was nearly entirely out of practice among Modern Observant women a generation ago (except in synagogue), but younger generations are increasingly taking the practice upon themselves.

Or in our culture not to tolerate/encourage every male or female to walk around in public stark naked. Whatever is modest or immodest varies , depends on customs/traditions and accepted norms .

btw - all Muslim women do not wear a veil, however , I recall when I visited one or two countries with Muslims majorities, I remember finding it very attractive when veiled young ladies , which I presumed to be abt my own age, at that time , would flirt with their eyes, and made my hormones kicked in. (wink)

    Whatever floats your boat.

Personally, I find all these cultural practices ridiculous. To me, nudity isn't a big deal with the exception of things like hygiene issues.

For example, I think women should be free to walk around topless just like men can. Walking around bottomless is only an issue with respect to seats. For hygiene reasons, you don't want people sitting on chairs butt naked.

Aside from that, nudity is only a big deal because of puritanical vestiges.

Slowly but surely, we're evolving away from those, and hopefully, the same will be true for religion in general.

Funny you should mention that. One of my sons informed me earlier this week that he'd bought a decent sized yacht . Lucky show -off pup , I couldn't have dreamt of owning a yacht that size when I was his age.

OMG - do you have any idea what that would do to the Rape statistics. ? I doubt whether there are many red blooded young males who can cope with that.

Congrats. He must be well compensated at his job.

Well, that's kind of the argument used to justify covering women up from head to toe, but it treats men like monsters and women like children.

People always cite rape statistics in Middle Eastern countries, but what they forget is that reported rape is going to be lower than a lot of other areas, when both the rapist and the victim get punished.

Then, you have the other extreme in Sweden, where if a man looks at a woman the wrong way, he's considered a sex offender.

I think there's a happy medium somewhere in between. Where I place that happy medium is people being mostly free to dress however they like (including very little) while still being held accountable for their actions.

I'm a cynical person in general, but I have more faith in personal responsibility and restraint among the public than you do. There's also the fact that norms change over time. At first, allowing women to go topless would cause some problems, but after a generation of the allowance, society would adapt.

The only reason we even attach so much sexuality to nudity is largely due to the taboos associated with it.

You don't see indigenous cultures that wear very little raping people all over the place.

Foxman believes that it DOES matter, because he believes that Jews are not a religion, but a "God chosen people".

Does that mean that the life of a Jewish civilian is more valuable than the life of a non-Jewish civilian?

The only time you use WMD's is when you feel threatened. Even when Saddam used them he was doing so for political purposes, because he felt threatened. We act as if men like Truman was somehow morally superior to men like Assad in that respect even though Assads situation is far more dire than Trumans ever was. That is called being self righteous.

Here is a quote from the Korrher Report you are referring to:

So what was the reason of the reduction of Jewish population since 1933 or since 1937, according to the report you are referring to?

Evacuations was a euphemism for extermination as shown conclusively by the Poznen speeches of Himmler, the excessive mortality was a direct result of starvation and disease brought about by the conditions in the slave labor camps, you can not provide a single solitary scrap of evidence for a mass Jewish exodus of Europe which would even come close to the nearly 6 million Jews who perished in the Shoah. You have no rebuttal to the preponderance of evidence of evidence you have been provided, the arguments of holocaust deniers are laughable on their face.

Well, you have refused to answer my question.
What was the reason of the reduction of Jewish population in Europe due to the report you have mentioned?

I've heard lot's of people here saying, from time to time especially since 9/11, that the lives of Americans are more valuable than the lives of non-Americans. It's a very human sort of sentiment. A theological rationale instead of a mere 'patriotic' one doesn't make the feeling any more or less shocking.

Start with "is my life more valuable than Joe Blow's?" You'll get a big majority affirmative on that. Then include wife and kids. The circle of regard extends outward quite naturally through more and more abstract identity groups, with some attenuation....

Systematic extermination through gassing, shooting, hanging, intentional starvation and disease brought about through forced labor and the conditions within the slave labor and death camps.
Evacuation is a proven euphemism for extermination as proven by the Posen speeches which I have already provided. Korherr himself was not a member of the SS and was thus not privilege to the information regarding the systematic extermination of European Jewry but was in fact ordered by Himmler to change the words "Special Treatment" to "Processing" regarding the number of Jews who were in fact being exterminated in the camps.

Provide a single solitary scrap of evidence for a mass exodus of European Jewry prior to the war or even during it for that matter, in fact name 4 single Jews who were "resettled" in the East. The pre and post war global census proves a population drop of nearly 5.5 million Jews, maybe they floated off into outerspace.

    Have you read the context?

Hiroshima and Nagasaki were brought on by the Japanese decision to conquer large swaths of the Pacific, and China. Israel is in a war for survival. I find Japan's trolling for apologies offensive. While they are a valued and devoted part of the West that was not the case in August 1945. They have spent the last four years brutally torturing prisoners and committing all manner of unspeakable atrocities.

What has this to do with my question?
You have referred to the Korherr Report, haven't you?

What was the reason of the reduction of Jewish population in Europe according to the report (Korherr Report) you have mentioned?

They have a special kind of "Christianity" in the USA, there are lot of so called "Judäo-Christians" there that support Zionism and even believe that they are also the "chosen" descendants of the ancient Hebrews.

They brought this strange kind of Christianity from England to the "New Israel" (speak the USA).

Well, the descendants of Khazars and some Anglo-Saxons still believe that they are descendants of the ancient Hebrews, that is the reason why they feel like chosen.

That self- closeness gave birth to the American Manifest Destiny, to the believe that USA is the New Israel, and eventually the descendants of Khazars, who believe that Israel is the restored ancient Kingdom of David, also claimed that they are descendants of the ancient Hebrews, too.

That gave eventually the birth to the Zionism, and Zionists eventually invented the "Jewish people".

That began wit Benjamin Disraeli, who was a Jew that converted to Christianity, but he still believed that he stems from the Hebrews.

People who believe that they are "chosen" because of their blood lineage are de facto Racists, be they Talmudic Jews or Evangelical Christians.

Both religious movements are kind of bigoted, most people would call this kind of religion racist ideology, not religion.

If somebody wants to steal the land of native people, then he is a thief and a racist, even if he believes that his God commanded him to commit crimes.

Nothing to do with what I was talking about. The esoteric beliefs of which you speak are not very widespread.

People everywhere divide the world into 'us and them,' and say "If it's us or them, let it be them.'

They often just say 'let it be them.'

Sure. I would agree that Assad's reaction is understandable. I don't think we should get involved in Syria.

Granted, this is also because if Assad falls, Syria will end up in the hands of Al Nusra. If we start striking Syria, we'll be handing it over to terrorists.
