Jerusalem in the news as to proof it is very very old and is Israels.

Trump followed the lead of our Congress that voted to accept Jerusalem as Israels capital city. For an odd reason, this truly angers some Americans. Even some Jews are outraged that their holy city is named the capital. I am not of that faith, but it is just fine with me that Jerusalem is the proven capital of Israel.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli archaeologists unveiled on Monday a 2,700-year-old clay seal impression which they said belonged to a biblical governor of Jerusalem.

The artifact, inscribed in an ancient Hebrew script as "belonging to the governor of the city", was likely attached to a shipment or sent as a souvenir on behalf of the governor, the most prominent local position held in Jerusalem at the time, the Israel Antiquities Authority said.

The impression, the size of a small coin, depicts two standing men, facing each other in a mirror-like manner and wearing striped garments reaching down to their knees. It was unearthed near the plaza of Judaism's Western Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem.

"It supports the Biblical rendering of the existence of a governor of the city in Jerusalem 2,700 years ago," an Antiquities Authority statement quoted excavator Shlomit Weksler-Bdolah as saying.

Governors of Jerusalem, appointed by the king, are mentioned twice in the Bible, in 2 Kings, which refers to Joshua holding the position, and in 2 Chronicles, which mentions Masseiah in the post during the reign of Josiah.

The Antiquities Authority's announcement came several weeks after U.S. President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital, a decision that overturned a decades-old policy on the status of the city and stirred Palestinian protests and international concern.

West Jerusalem is the capital of Israel.

East Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine.

It actually reads "governor or mayor of the city" Jerusalem is not mentioned at all. We must await further investigation to confirm the Jerusalem link.

Seems the experts announced it is for Jerusalem and not some other city.

"It's a very rare find," said Shlomit Weksler-Bdolah, excavator of the Western Wall plaza for the Israel Antiquities Authority.

"The find's great importance is that until now, we only know the expression of city governor (of Jerusalem) from the Bible," she told AFP.

"This is the first time we find it in the archaeological context, in an archaeological dig of a structure from the seventh century BC," she added.

The seal does not mention the name of the governor or the city of Jerusalem, but Weksler-Bdolah said she believed it referred to the Holy City.

She said a scientific examination of the seal would be conducted soon and was expected to corroborate its link to Jerusalem.

2,700 years ago, for accuracy, it's probable that the city was called "Urusalem", or something like that [at least this was its name when, during the "Amarna period" a servant king of the Pharaoh ruled over it. We've got the letters the Pharaoh and the servant king exchanged.]

Anyone else disappointed this article wasn’t about a carving of an ancient governor slapping his arms together and going “honk honk”. :D
