What a great idea. Get all the member nations of the IOC to chip in and have one great venue that will serve forever. No massive debt for any one city. Any number of places could do. But Greece is the obvious choice, at least for the Summer Olympics. It has an undeniable historical claim. It staged a well-run Olympics in 2004. The facilities it built wouldnt be too costly to refurbish. And the extra tourism money that Greece would receive would help it pay off its debts one reason International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde has recently spoken favorably about the idea. My argument is this: Build a summer stadium at Olympus (for obvious reasons) and a winter stadium in the Alps in deference to Geneva, a city that has become synonymous with world peace, the point of the games. Still do the rotating hosting with the 'host' nation leading the proceedings and getting all the profits (with the Greeks and Swiss getting a small cut for being the actual hosts). So basicly what you said.
The olympics should stay rotating that way everyone in the world has some kind of chance to maybe enjoy it is a chance for the host country to share with the world it's culture and beauty. Now with that said what needs to stop is the IOC demands of forcing countries or cities to build brand new top of the line Olympic stadiums they probably wont use again. I mean what is wrong with taking a present stadium and simply upgrading it ? nor should the IOC committee be forcing host countries to pamper their asses like they are gods. The IOC should be about the olympics, but they are more worried about the perks they will personally receive. They use the host country like a prostitute. In no way should the Olympics lead to the country losing money when it's so big they should gain. Along with that bidding to host the Olympics should be done away with, again it is how the IOC chooses that will benefit their own personal standing. Perhaps instead countries that are truly interested and economically available can put their names in and from there the world can vote on where they would like to see the next Olympics? I dunno, but Greece and Brazil were perfect examples of why we should look further into things before just letting a price tag decide. Also citizens of the host country should never be allowed to judge any event in which one of their countrymen or women are directly competing. I don't know if that is a rule now but I am thinking about Roy Jones Jr. getting cheated in South Korea lol.
No to a permanent home for the Olympics. The way it is now, the host country pays. If it's in one place, the Americans will get stuck with the tab, just like at the U.N.
Not Brazil...
