We've structured our capital markets in such a manner that too many people see real estate as a place where they can get the best return. As a country, we're putting a lot of our capital into nonproductive assets. (Did you ever see a house make anything?)

Why is CA real estate so high? Because it has an ideal climate, a relaxed lifestyle, and it's attractiveness makes real estate a good bet. Up and down the West Coast of North America ticks the same real estate boxes.
Having the state lease land is one way to make real estate less attractive as an investment. I don't I would dole out places to live based on who has "lived there the longest."
Our Canadian home for 12+ years was an 800 sq. ft. two-bedroom rancher. When our daughter was getting old enough to have friends over, we decided not to subject her to at least some our odd lifestyle and moved to a 3500 sq. ft. house with a swimming pool. Oddly, we never put in a pool at our Napa home.
I'm sorry, but the graph illustrates a problem in our society and there is indeed a split, mostly along generational and educational fault lines. My daughter and her husband are 51 and 47. They ended up on the good side of the fault line. She's vice president of a major Canadian bank and he does startups. My nieces, less than ten years younger, got on the property ladder later and have large mortgages.

Most of the new home middle class home growth is equity inherited from baby boomer parents who are beginning their death cycle.

I'm not challenging the graph, but you were ragging on CA, and I was just pointing out that it was a national graph, and the problem that the graph reveals is not a CA thing, per se, but a national thing.

Oregon has already been take overtaken by the California immigrants. You wouldn't notice any meaningful difference politically. I loved Oregon when I lived there. Personally I wouldn't go back.

No, I was not "ragging on CA," although there are many things the state government could have done can done (and can still do) to discourage investment in residential housing.

The first thing we should understand is that there is no way we can build our way out of the problem, and the second is that everyone who would like to live in the desirable CA locations cannot.

I, too, left California. The middle class is splitting apart.

    That's ragging on CA.

The middle class is splitting apart. You don't like the truth about what high home prices are doing to the middle class.

Just heard that on the drive in from work, no additional info but seems mighty finely timed and he's not been disbarred that I've seen. She's an MD iirc.

Heard funny business about ballots and Larry being called a white supremacist lol.

    They are scared.

Elder was saying the other day that Feinstein is more brittle than Joe Biden and if she steps down, he will get to appoint her replacement.

This is why Elizabeth Warren is in local political ads.

But the way these freak leftists want illegals to vote, circumventing the democratic process for California citizens. They are full of it.

As Leftist continue to lose elections they will attack the electoral system. Elections are how we select our representatives. Leftists don't want to represent, they want to rule, and they bristle at having to deign to ask our permission.

Mask Hypocrite. Thinks we are his mask-bitches. Screwed his best friend's wife.

Betting lines have him 70%+ of surviving recall.

    Who advocates ignoring them?

    Set up comprehensive rehab facilities
that would first sort out them, those and
    try keep families together.

    Treat as can be treated.
Find housing & sustenance as needed.
Education & job skills with job placement
    as possible.

HOWEVER, it should not be an option for the homeless
to flop on the zip code of their choice.

Then there are always those who decide denying homeless camping rights on public right of way
    = ignoring the problem

The fix is in. Ballot harvesters have mailbox keys. The idea of an honest election in California is ludicrous.
