Somehow that has become the case. They want to control, control, control, from a Centralized Government. They want to dictate to others how they will think and live their lives. They have become Orwellian, and some of them don't even get it, but push on... because "woke"!

It's the nature of the beast. I think it was former-Leftist David Horowitz who observed that within the seed of socialism lies the germ of authoritarianism and it's true.

As far as the New Left is concerned, the old adage that 'the apple doesn't fall far from the tree' certainly applies here. The New Left has become the Old Left and in the process the New has taken on all the negative characteristics of the Old. It's profoundly sad, actually - to see people completely corrupted by the allure, pursuit and possession of power is a terrible thing and nothing good ever comes from it.

Let's look at the record. The same basic argument was made during debates on deregulation., How did that work out historically?

Deregulating the banking sector during the Reagan era led to the S&L and BCCI fiascos among many other cases of corruption that made millions for criminals and drastically hurt consumers and investors.

Deregulating energy in the 90's led directly to Enron and the bilking of the California consumers to the tune of billions.

Repealing Glass-Steagall and getting government out of regulating the investment banking sector, led directly to the crash of the entire global banking system and the worst crisis since the depression.

Now we basically have the gutting of any governmental oversight over energy policy and environment along with wildly irresponsible taxation legislation as the corporate class loots the US and leaves a trail of debt for American taxpayers in it's wake.

So, your solution is to get the government out and let the criminals regulate themselves............

and I've not got both oars in the water...lol.

Oh bs....reducing government just removes oversight and allow the criminals to do what ever they want with no legal repercussions. Clearly you don't have a strong grasp of how deregulation and small government has worked in the past.

My thoughts are no so much reducing government but reforming the lobbying and payola system in order to get undo corporate influence out and return to a government that serves the people rather than it's corporate financiers.

And just for the record, there are many theories and interpretations of socialism. It is not one monolithic idea that you can condemn without understanding anything about how it has evolved over the years .

Even during Marx's time, there were differing ideas about how socialism should manifest from the Anarchists to the Utopians to actual authoritarians. Today there are even more examples from mixed economies such as China which, whatever it's failures, has managed to lift 800 million people out of abject poverty and keep the global economy afloat after 2008 crisis to the Scandinavian model of democratic socialist policies occurring as a check to the worst contradictions and excesses of capitalism.

Hopefully the 2020 election will bring out an adult discussion of some of these ideas in regards to health care, education and social capital and move beyond the rather simplistic and unsophisticated arguments you are trying to make.

If you think no criminality exists you obviously have not been paying attention to all the indictments that came out of the investigation. Nor have you read any of the material I supplied in the op.

I understand that Trumpers hate to read but you really should have a go at some of the material I documented before making sweeping statements with no basis in reality.

I read things that are worthwhile reading, and I've never found fiction to be all that worthwhile.

If we investigate you, and find that your brother didn't pay his taxes 12 years ago, does that make you a criminal? If we find that 26 out-of-towners tried to influence your local school board election, without any participation on your part, does that make you a criminal? If not, then stop trying to make Trump into a criminal.

The Special Counsel's investigation did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and I (AG William Barr) have concluded that the evidence developed during the Special Counsel's investigation is not sufficient to establish that the President committed an obstruction-of-justice offense.

Clearly, that's the kind of false choice one would expect the proponents of Big Government to fabricate.

What you are unable or unwilling to grasp is that reducing the power, size and money of a criminal syndicate reduces the amount of crime committed by and with that syndicate. The larger the criminal syndicate the greater the threat it poses to the rule of law and its enforcement, and that's precisely the problem we have with our government today and precisely the problem people had with their socialist governments in Europe, the Soviet Union, Africa and Asia in the past. Reducing the power, size and expense of their criminal government syndicates has made them freer and more prosperous.

Your thoughts and targets are highly selective. Evidently, some buying of votes, whether it be of corrupt politicians or corrupt voters, is more equal than others. It's not just the influence peddling involving corporations that has to get reduced or eliminated but the incestuous relationship between Democrats and public sector unions along with the entitlement-based vote-buying rackets of corrupt politicians who use taxpayer money to literally purchase votes from corrupt voters.

Yes, we're all aware that there are many theories, interpretations and applications of socialism which is why we can condemn them if and when we see fit.

    Uh-huh...

As long as socialists are involved in that discussion I doubt it. We'll hear the same old childish, irrational and unrealistic ideas and arguments that we've come to expect from "progressives" and all of them will involve expanding the power, size and expense of the criminal syndicate that you supposedly oppose but really don't. Socialists need a large, powerful criminal syndicate to operate - without it they are nothing.

But how are you going to reduce the size and power of a criminal syndicate without some ability to countercheck them? The criminal syndicate is not going to go away just because you destroy the only mechanism you have for prosecuting and holding them to account. You've been reducing the ability of government to hold criminals to account for decades and the result is always the same. Moe Enrons. More Lehman Bros. More Bears-Stern and the list goes on........

And who are the criminals and oligarchs now....the Mercers and Adelsons and all their lackies and lobbyists. And now you've given them everything they ever could have wanted. And reducing government is going to stop this how???????

Could you give one example of a country where reducing government oversight has reduced the power, size and expense of their criminal government syndicate and made people freer and more prosperous and show exactly how the was done by reducing government?

This makes no sense at all. So you are saying it is all Democrats, unions and entitlements that are the problem while conveniently giving the corporate/military/industrial wing of the ruling elite and their cronies and lobbyists of which the Republican party is infested probably more than even the Democrats. What about corporate welfare and subsidies to the wealthiest sectors of society who generally destroy the economies they help to deregulate and then leave tax-payers with the bill for their corruption and greed. The same people who don't want to pay taxes and are the beneficiaries of the greatest cash grab in US history during Trump's regime.

Clearly you are not aware of any of these and your condemnations are based on a lack of knowledge or insight mixed with toxic fear-mongering which is really meant to stifle any alternative ideas before they can be discussed because they threaten the status quo.

This is exactly what the criminals want. Destroy any discussion of policy that does not give them exactly what they want.

    Uh-huh...

And criminals need an unregulated corrupt oligarchy with no ability to hold any of them to account - which is what you are promoting.

The solution is simple: Laizze Faire Capitalism—if the politicians can’t touch the economy; they can’t be corrupted by bribes. But no, the altruistic cancer that affects the human psyche, wipes out the healthy egoism we requires for prosperity and peace. So we will continue on our self-sacrificing ways, and continue to be plagued by corruption and wars.

The problem is that capitalist economies require government for legal systems, fiat currencies, etc. Ultimately, the same governments end up working for capitalists, which ironically doesn't only go against the idea of a free market but is the result of it.

That is the only moral function of government, to defend the rights of individuals, including, capitalists. It's not a problem; its the solution. Furthermore, A proper government is a moral necessity in a capitalist society and moral impossibility in a socialist one.

That's what the gullible keeps imagining: the government works for it.

That's why a "proper government" is a moral necessity in a socialist society but a moral impossibility in any society.

Tell it to Stalins’s 10 million Kulaks, Mao’s 60 million peasants; Pol Pots 4 million former city dwellers; and Che’s murder victims. But your wasting your effort with me. I’ve seen collectivism in action, and I’ve seen individualism in action. I live and want the system that favors the Wright brothers; and abhor and revolt against any system that favors a Maduro.

You should do the same, if life is what you wish.

You should study-up on what Glass-Steagall gave the country, and then what happened after Clinton & Co repealed it.

Those are dictatorships that operated similar to countries controlled by the rich and used military forces to prey on weaker countries.

Hence, robber barons colluding with the state to control resources, then the formation of large corporations to take over Main Street, followed by control of money supply via the Fed, the formation of a military industrial complex, perpetual warfare to keep the petrodollar propped up, and four decades of voodoo economics to ensure that Wall Street calls the shots.

What's ironic is that the economies that are now gaining ground are part of BRICS and emerging markets. What's more ironic is that citizen Trump is following suit, with restrictions on legal and illegal immigration as well as free trade.

For about 60 years, it kept 2 parts of the banking industry separate, and therefore provided some measure of stability. It allowed smaller community banks to be separate from the crap shooters on Wall Street.

Except that Govt is a concept that is influenced by those in power. If the Govt is Corrupt, it's because those elected to power have allowed it to become corrupt. Start electing ethical and moral individuals, rather then whomever plays the 2 party game the best, and your Govt won't be corrupt.
