Trump reportedly asked Pence that if White House lawyers said he had the power to reject the results of the election, “wouldn’t you want to?”

“I wouldn’t want any one person to have that authority,” Pence told Trump, according to the book.

“But wouldn’t it almost be cool to have that power?” Trump asked.

“No,” Pence replied. “Look, I’ve read this, and I don’t see a way to do it. We’ve exhausted every option. I’ve done everything I could and then some to find a way around this. It’s simply not possible.”

The president was insistent.

“No, no, no, you don’t understand, Mike. You can do this,” he told Pence, adding: “I don’t want to be your friend anymore if you don’t do this.”

This just popped up on my screen. He is so obnoxious. How does he get the nerve to call anybody a wimp when he faked bone spurs and went back to the safety of the White House after saying he would march with his supporters to the Capitol? He can't even negotiate a glass of water without two hands.

 

Yeah, it's always mundane when the president pushes people to do something illegal. Something he knows is illegal because he's been told as much by experts in constitutional law. He then pushes his vice president to join him in doing something illegal but luckily Pence, for all his ideological shortcomings, had the integrity to tell him no way. I don't agree with Mike Pence's political positions any more than I ever did, but he earned a great deal of my respect for his principles on Jan 6th.

 

Trump's lawyer, John Eastman, asked him for a pardon the day after the 1/6...

Barr testified that he, John Eastman, Eric Herschmann, and nearly all of the DOJ's lawyers told Trump that his efforts to overturn the election and pressure Pence were illegal.

So Trump knew he was committing a criminal act.

I asked what laws were broken. I mean just about everyone in the US could be locked up if it was a crime to tell someone they wouldn't be your friend anymore.
