Jane Fonda on If She Is ‘Proud of America Today’: ‘No!’

    Jane Fonda made it clear she is not proud of America.



    During a recent interview with the BBC, Fonda was asked, "Are you proud of America today?"
    The actress was very quick to reply with a hard "no."

    "But, I’m proud of the resistance," she elaborated. "I’m proud of the people who are turning out in unprecedented numbers and continue over and over and over again to protest what Trump is doing. I’m very proud of them, that core."
    During the same interview, the 79-year-old was asked if she had a "sense of regret" for her visit to North Vietnam in 1972.

    The "Grace and Frankie" star said while she doesn't "regret going to Vietnam," she does regret appearing at an anti-aircraft ceremony that made her appear to be "siding with the enemy."


    "The thing that I regret is that on my last day there, I made the mistake of going to a ceremony at an anti-aircraft gun," she added. "It wasn’t being used. There were no airplanes or anything like that. There was a ceremony. I was asked to sing and people were laughing and so forth and I was led, and I sat down. And then I got up and as I walked away, I realized, ‘Oh my gosh.     Some of these old commies just never go away. There must be a graveyard for this group like Jane, Hillary, Nancy, Chuck, Maxine, Elijah, Bernie and those from that whole era. I was wondering how my fellow forum members felt. Are you ashamed or proud of America today? If ashamed, why? If proud, why?

    oh yeah .. it's easy to declare the awfulness of your nation from the lofty heights of your gated ivory tower, reclining on your silk chaise, while being fed peeled grapes by your Mexican maid .. whose name you think is Juanita, but you can't be sure ...

    as far as her betraying her country, much of that is false anyways, she was against the war though, I think many Americans were

    It's not nothing. It's grotesque. An ultra rich, ultra safe, ultra white, high profile person making public declarations on a life never lived, is hysterically appalling.

    Politics was it? Vietnamese revisionists portray Ho Chi Minh as an "immortal saint" but his regime was brutal. The losers were the S. Vietnamese. S. Korea is a shining example of what could have been in S. Viet Nam. Fonda became a peacenik for fame. Liberals that idolized her didn't oppose the war, they opposed sacrifice that didn't benefit them personally. I participated in bringing Vietnamese refugee families to the US. The atrocities committed after the US left was horrific as retold by survivors. Those peoples lives aren't "a bit of politics".

    why does Trump not think America is great?

    I am not sure if I feel more shame or more pride. I suppose it's all about that glass half full/half empty. I do know that I used to see the glass as two/ thirds full. I think we have been spilling a lot recently.
