No, I was just citing a experience of mine that has contributed to my heavy stance against smoking and alcohol. If the prohibition were to come alive again on alcohol, I'd be all for it. Like smoking, the cons far outweigh the pros when it comes to alcohol.

you can use your experience to decide for yourself, your genes may be faulty and not able to handle smoking, as seen from your ancestors, so good you don't smoke

same with alchol, I do not drink either... but I would never support prohibition of alchol.. good you choose not to drink

but do not force your choices on others, that is where the problem is, that is where the line is crossed

    So, you are a Statist.

You want government to control what people do with their own bodies.

That's probably more psychological than anything else.

What does one have to do with the other?

The point I was making is that you have to be at a later age to drink, why not have to raise to the same age to smoke?

Because one has nothing to do with the other.

They are both detrimental to health. That's how they have to do with the other.

    LOL!

    Why age 21 then?

Using your decerebrate logic, drinking and smoking should only be allowed when you're on your death bed.

agree, I have seen people go into coughing fits over someone having one of those white bic pens in their mouth - it's the placebo effect in reverse

We could of course, get rid of the age requirement for both. Act like Europe in that way. Possibly could cut down the amount of DUI's and eliminate underage drinking. Criminals commit crimes to one-up law enforcement. When its no longer illegal, there's no need to set such a low standard for a split-second adrenaline rush. Same goes for drugs.
Legally, you are a adult at 18.

Technically, you are a full-fledged adult at age 35.

If smoking is so bad, why don't they outlaw it? Tax revenue and control. I bet most smokers wish they would outlaw smoking so they would have more incentive to quit.

I used to chew it 15 years or something like that. Cheaper then smokes 5 to 10 times stronger. I did wish it was harder to get. I enjoy vaping though, really glad it helped me kick the can.

Why is the right wing OK with letting corporations sell death to the populace?

Republicans are responsible for the war on drugs about as much as the Iraq war. EVERYONE is involved across the board. Labeling it a Republican issue is the height of ignorance. Just look at the votes. ALl there in black and white. A partisan issue is something like Obamacare. THAT can be tied strictly to one side. War on Drugs? Give me a break.

I get it from the disdain righties have for regulation. What's the fact that some lefties have to do with it? The right wing is the wing that wants to end civil litigation because #personalresponsibility. What about ethical and moral business practices?

It's interesting that the Royal College of Physicians has the exact opposite opinion on e-cigarettes. Their studies indicate 1) that almost no "new" smokers smoke e-cigs--it's mainly current smokers; 2) e-cigs are about 5% as dangerous as regular cigs; and 3) e-cigs are a useful tool to help people stop smoking. I get that the e-cig smokers produce obnoxious huge plumes of smoke, etc., and it looks dangerous. But we need to look at common sense and what ACTUALLY happens instead of what could happen. Most of the anti-e-cig stuff is based on what "could" happen, like the flavored mixes "could" attract younger people, etc.

Well, I'm anti-smoking, but I think vaping is a good thing. First, it doesn't produce significant amounts of second hand smoke, and second, I've met a lot of smokers who were successful quitting using vaps, after having had many failures with other methods of stopping smokers. I think the gov't should be encouraging e-cigs.

Some of the juice manufacturers were doing dumb things for a bit like putting diacetyl in their flavorings. There might be some argument for oversite. But the industry has been doing a pretty good job of regulating its self so far. In states like Pennsylvanian where sales aren't banned to anyone under 18 the shops will require a person to be 18 to enter anyway. Purchases on the internet can be a bit dicey but that's true with anything. To Dales point about zero tobacco. I don't know if its entirely true. I'm pretty sure the nicotine is extracted from tobacco.
