What do you think about this, folks? Is Harding's affirmative action something you approve of, or do you think that it's wrong of him to want to hire people simply because of their race/ethnicity? As always, all opinions are welcome.

I am not a racist, so I must strongly oppose his policy. Two wrongs don't make a right.

The BBC is an absolute farce. While I think Clinton won the first debate by an inch, the BBCs coverage of it was just disgraceful. As if the journalism staff were all Clinton staffers.

Then again, they're journalism majors. Of course they are.

 

Best for the job may not necessarily be best for the company. If his company is completely White, they probably aren't going to do a very good job staying relevant in a world where people of different backgrounds are increasing their stake in the economy. Not when his company is underseige by Youtubers and social media and other digital content all competing for ad dollars that get scarcer by the day... he is probably in the fight of his life to stay relevant.

It was a women in the Apple boardroom that realized if they didn't make the Iphone compatible with fingernails that it was overlooking 50% of the market. A bunch of Ivey League White guys could be the best dudes for the job but not catch that one little thing.

 

What on earth does him being Jewish and supporting Israel have to do with the female black people and Asians that he wants to hire?

What's the big deal about the BBC as the UK's national broadcaster, presenting a more demographically aligned face to the nation it serves?

Its not like a private american network who for instance can field all the blonde haired cute bimbos it wants to appeal to its demographic of old white men.

 

Being a staunch supporter of Israel won't go down that well - We're more on the Palestinian side in the UK.

 

I'm suggesting hiring minorities will protect his company's long run profitability. The logical structure of the argument along with the perfect example should evidence that to anyone that read it. Also, nearly every Fortune 500 company's having a D&I organization should evidence the strategy is not only viable but necessary.

They shouldn't need a woman in the boardroom for that. Product testing should be done at a much lower level.
