Basic psychology behind controlling people is known as the carrot and the stick. In this PR move, he is using actual carrots!

Fueling more inflation while doing photo ops. It's called a "refundable tax credit" which is a fancy name for free money. There is an abundance of jobs, go get one and pay for your children as I did for the three I raised.

1, The comment about Trump not paying taxes is a deflection and a strawman. The subject is Biden's proposed extension of a tax credit. Why is it the left cannot discuss actual issues without Trump whataboutism?

    2. What is insulting about referring to people who don't pay taxes as people who don't pay taxes? After all, the subject being discussed is a "tax credit." What term would you suggest for people that don't pay taxes?

    3. So you agree with the Biden handout. Why do you agree with the Biden handout? Should people just get free stuff? Does the temporary "help" go on forever, inasmuch as Covid seems likely to go on forever? Why do people who work have to give money to people that don't work? Do you think paying people to not work might have something to do with inflation and growing shortages of goods/services?

Do children file tax returns? Way to dodge the question. If Biden wants to hand out more welfare why call it a tax credit?

Do corporations that pay no taxes get actual tax refunds? If so please provide support for this claim. I do know we pay EITC "refunds" to illegals that do not pay taxes. However, my point is a refund should conform to the English language definition of the word. In other words, a refund is getting money back that was first paid. Giving a tax refund to someone who did not pay taxes turns the IRS into a social services agency. The term tax refund is used to obfuscate. I want welfare payments to be called welfare payments, and not tax credits, regardless of who receives the welfare.

In several years of PF participation you are now only the third person to make my ignore list. I enjoy a good back and forth discussion with people who disagree with me, but your posts are a waste of bandwidth.

Republicans do not want the people to get anything in return during a Pandemic for the taxes they have paid in

We (my wife and I) opted out of this program when it started. I would never be caught dead begging for money from the government and I’ll opt out again if starts up. People who take this should be ashamed.

Pointing out the fact we use tax credits and many people benefit from them isn't a whataboutism. It's establishing Biden's "more free stuff" is actually something we do already and isn't strange. Now it would be if I was saying Trump was wrong to use the tax credits. Now if you think it's a whataboutism, that's fair. I can buy that interpretation. You'll have to excuse me then.

Because it's classist. I mean, here we have two people who hypothetically don't pay taxes. But one is better than the other. Why? Because "jobs"? That's a bad argument.

As I'm understanding the issue, the issue really comes from Republicans and Democrats between 2010-2020 who pushed for pumping the economy by lowering interests rates without actually investing in the economy. Think about the decline in infrastructure. So when the pandemic took off and the US tried to put more money in the economy, which they've been doing for decades 'overheated the economy'. I'm not really an economist so my understanding is probably off. It had nothing to do with paying people not to work, rather it has to do with a decade plus problem of trying to spur businesses without the foundations to promote businesses. As for your other questions?
    1. Kids are expensive. Especially in a pandemic. Give the tax credits so kids can have needs met.
    2. Yes. We do all the time. Arguably the failure to provide 'free stuff' like healthcare is driving up the pandemic numbers.
    3. Yeah Covid is here to stay. We need to readjust the economy to deal with that.
    4. I mean yeah, because that's the nice thing to do. We do it all the time already and see the benefits from it. Doing nice things works.
    5. No, see above.

    Not deflection, pointing out hypocrisy.

More points taken off for rationalization. Sorry, making excuses for whataboutism - it's still just making excuses.

Not really. I'm not excusing anyone. I'm pointing out the problem with saying 'we shouldn't provide free stuff' by pointing out we already do and there are moments wherein which we may say it's okay to provide stuff to some people but not others, even though both aren't 'paying taxes'. We need clarification otherwise we're going to run into whataboutisms.

I thought Manchin told him "no".

Every time I see those deposits show up, I tell my wife it's like watching the incremental death of our nation. I hadn't taken the time to sort out how to opt out of them, but I do despise that they're growing a welfare mentality among my countrymen. I had way too many conversations with people all flush with excitement about either the pandemic-excused "relief payments" or the CTC pre-payments. Every single time it annoyed and disappointed me.

I wouldn't mind it if it actually went back to the people who paid it. This program wasn't that though. It was giving "free money", mostly to poor people, most of whom did not pay much or anything at all in federal income taxes.
