Listen to George W Bush talk when he was in his 20's and 30's compared to how he talked when he decided to run for Gov of Texas. He didn't develop that southern accent until he needed it to sound more folksy. Neither of his parents and none of his siblings have that accent.
Also, Gov Ann Richards (who had a REAL Texas accent) ridiculed his fake accent.
