John Conyers Announces Retirement, Endorses Son to Run for Seat

    John Conyers today, PBS is reporting, made a retirement announcement on a Detroit radio program (Mildred Gaddis) and is finally stepping down after a very long and controversial career in congress.

    A victim of the sexual harassment charges against him Conyers is finally saying goodbye, albeit he is endorsing son John Conyers III to take his place with a tip of the hat to the nepotism and family cronyism that has marked Conyers' career (his wife Monica, a Detroit Concilwoman, was convicted of bribery in a corruption case against her and she wound up doing three years in prison).
    A nephew of Conyer's also expressed interest in the vacant seat continuing the theme of
    his place in the senate being owned by the Conyers family machine.

    In my opinion this long festering sore on the body politic of American is welcomed to go and he has been a corrupt blight on congress for decades. Detroit has a chance to do the right thing and finally elect someone of character though it's doubtful they will.

    nepotism is a disgusting thing
    which is why I, as a Trump supporter, hate the fact his daughter and Jared are so powerful.

    I agree. I think Trump shouldn't put his family in positions of power. It puts them in danger.

    How about ethics?

    We have a President now who is directly benefiting financially off of being President, and in some cases, possibly working to use his office to profit personally.

    If you find nepotism "disgusting," how about ethics?

    "Embattled Rep. John Conyers, D-Michigan, has announced Tuesday that he is retiring and has endorsed his son, John Conyers III to run for his seat. Conyers' lawyer confirmed that the retirement is effective immediately."

    Apparently he has left office, though it's not a "retirement". He has resigned in shame, though he seems to have little of that.

    So you're saying this guy ... "Bill" personally knew what John Conyers was doing and every single Democrat known to man/women knew?

    I am saying the Dems knew about him and Bill and Weinstein and others for decades and looked the other way, for decades, until they became liabilities and it became politically expedient to throw them unders the bus.

    I will take them seriously when they dump a democratic congressman or senator from a toss up/red state or district. Not holding my breath at all.
