Name it the Train that never made it International Airport. It would be fitting for the idiots out there.

I remember when the airport was promised to be only for private planes.
Then came Air California and the promise not to fly jet planes
And we are lucky it is not an intentional airport.

John Wayne was a fixture in Newport Beach.
Not that he just lived here but pleasant to people who encountered him. And children too.
Seen at "The Arches" restaurant or on the bay.

And there is a big, bronze (?) statue of him at the airport.

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

At a time when too much history is being refuted,
too many statures torn down -
    Moi favors John Wayne Airport.
The only revision I would like to see is John Wayne Manifest Destiny Airport.
BTW its' luggage initials are SNA for Santa Ana .

Lastly to the critics of The Duke.
    Is nothing sacred.
Go back to the War on Santa Claus or Halloween, please.
Shall we take George Washington off our currency because he was a slave owner.
Jefferson, ?Madison, ? Monroe, Jackson fershur, etc.
The hero Travis, the commander of the Alamo was a slave owner.
    Commandancy of the The Alamo
    Bejar, Feby. 24th. 1836
To the People of Texas & All Americans in the World-
    Fellow Citizens & compatriots-

I am besieged, by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna - I have sustained a continual Bombardment & cannonade for 24 hours & have not lost a man - The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise, the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken - I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, & our flag still waves proudly from the walls - I shall never surrender or retreat. Then, I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism & everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid, with all dispatch - The enemy is receiving reinforcements daily & will no doubt increase to three or four thousand in four or five days. If this call is neglected, I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country - Victory or Death.

    William Barret Travis.
    Lt. Col.comdt.

    P. S. The Lord is on our side - When the enemy appeared in sight we had not three bushels of corn - We have since found in deserted houses 80 or 90 bushels and got into the walls 20 or 30 head of Beeves.
    Travis

    SAVE OUR HEROES!

Keep SNA as John Wayne Airport.

Wow, the Boomers really must have loved their celebrities in the day. We make fun of millennials now for their constant infatuation with celebrities but it looks like the old fogies had the same problem. The Matrix is my favorite movie but I wouldn't name an airport after Keanu Reeves.

More politically correct erasing of history. Very good.

Remember: the world began on 1/20/09.

Now let's go dynamite the slaveholder faces off Mount Rushmore.

Those "whites" were Californio Spaniards and Mexicans. Read a little history and discover a world apart from ignorance.

I have never watched a John Wayne movie but I know he did a lot of westerns. What I find really strange about that statue of him at the airport is he is dressed like a cowboy from his movie roles. He has a gun in his belt and the traditional hat, vest and spurs. I am going to assume John Wayne did not dress that way in real life. So you name an airport after him but portray him as a character from his movies. That would be like naming an airport after Harrison Ford and putting up a statue of Han Solo.

So 75 years vs 50 years is why the lefties lost the ability to distinguish fantasy from reality.

Think of the character of the persons he portrayed in his Westerns.
"Three Godfathers" is a good one to consider.
He rarely deviated from that character as he did in "The Searchers".
He was "do the right thing" without the sex abuse like Bill Cosby.

It is not just John Wayne "we" admire but, his portrayal of Americanism!

But then again Keanu Reeves isn't macho enough to hold John Wayne's jock strap. Or perhaps he . . . is.

    Oh, this guy again ....

As someone from OC who owns property in Laguna Beach, probably the most Progressive city in OC .... the OP is a fringe Left anomaly.

Most of the people in OC are still conservative family types who are just for gay rights. OP does like to have his fun though, I am guessing a 22 YO from Berkeley or something who came back.

I have never watched a John Wayne movie but I am pretty sure Neo could kick any character John Wayne portrayed. Just watched the lobby sequence again when Neo shows up at the metal detector.

I am ok with slave owners like Washington and Jefferson who wrote a constitution that only let white, male land owners vote being honored for their contributions to our country. I am also ok with great generals like Robert E Lee and Stonewall Jackson being honored in their native states even though they fought on the losing side of the War. I am also ok with old John “The Duke” Wayne being honored in Orange County. Liberals are going to do nothing but piss people off by engaging in these petty meaningless turd hunts. If there was a sign under his name saying that queers shouldn’t fly out of this airport, then you’d have a point. Otherwise, let it go.

History classes will teach people about those politicians and war generals.
Not so much for an actor who openly spouted his racist and homophobe views when those views were the norm in the USA. Those views are not the norm today and should not be.
You should be ok with liberals who run the county to make the name of their airport represent what they want then? Yes?

I think this is the problem with Boomers and the MAGA ideal, (and I am saying this as a Trump supporter). If you are going to name something after John Wayne you should be doing based on his accomplishments as an actor or entertainer. You say you admire his PORTRAYAL of Americanism. What I would say is why not honor someone who has those qualities of Americanism that John Wayne portrayed in his movies instead of an actor. I am not sure what those qualities are but I have a suspicion they may not really exist in real life and embodied in a real individual. I liked Trump in the last election but I never really liked the whole MAGA idea. America has always been great but the MAGA Trump speaks about is probably as fictional as the Americanism John Wayne portrayed.

What is rather unusual is the number of Californian Republicans on PF living in a state that is so unlike them. I don't know if you are a native and frankly it doesn't matter but consulting facts would enhance your posts.
