Months ago, I put Johnny Carson on auto record. Nothing happened forever, until this week. They are running election cycle shows, and it is hilarious. I miss Johnny. Nobody has come close, since. The Reagan, Bush, Dukakis and Carter jokes are priceless. Apparently there was quite a comedy show during the Dukakis / Bush debate. I'm sure I saw it, but I don't remember. Also, tonight, Robin Williams' appearance just as Johnathan Winters joined the case of Mork & Mindy, and right after he was done filming Garp. Good stuff - it's a lot of fun. Some joke about Trump in there, related to airlines. I'm sure these having been cherry picked. Memories.... ah to reminisce and remember a less hectic time in my life.
Awhile back I ended up next-up youtubing into some of Winters' appearances on the Tonight Show. I really have no idea why people found him as funny as they did. Of course, I didn't think Robin Williams was particularly funny either. He was a solid actor, but how he started off as a comedian is beyond me. Like that with a lot of the old SNL cast members like Belushi as well. I guess back in the day people used to think spastic weirdness was hilarious.
Wow that's interesting from your point of view, so you think this more vulgar comedy is funnier? I used to love the Carrol Burnet show and the 2nd to last episode of Johnny with Robin williams was the most hilarious thing ever.
Vulgar? What was vulgar about Johnny Carson? Carol Burnet was a genius, and any time I can catch her reruns, I'm all eyes. Her show was must watch TV.
It doesn't have to be vulgar but it needs to be relatable for me and I don't find those people I mentioned doing anything even remotely relatable. Michael McIntyre, for instance, does a lot of really funny stuff without being explicitly vulgar because he is eccentric and makes what he is discussing relatable.
