    When a Republican is President...

Democrats: Trump has something to fear which is why he will not release his tax returns.

    Republicans: Witch-hunt!

    If a Democrat were President...

    Democrats: Witch hunt!

Republicans: The Democrat President has something to fear which is why he will not release his tax returns.

Me: I do not trust those who hide their tax returns. I think making tax returns public should be mandatory for those who decide how public money is spent. If a politician cannot even manage their own money then I do not want their hands in the Treasury.

Trump attorneys will use the Mueller Report conclusion on obstruction to fight this ruling. One reason Mueller offered for not concluding his investigation into obstruction by the President was that the DoJ policy against indicting a sitting President made such an investigative conclusion unfair to the President himself insomuch as there would be a cloud hanging over the Presidency, as long as he was in office, and couldn't be brought to trial. It would be, according to Mueller, an infringement on the President's due process right to a "speedy trial."
So...the idea that neither can he be investigated while in office, is simply an extension of the DoJ policy.
On the other side...the case, if it gets to the Supreme Court, may end-up with a ruling on the constitutionality of the DoJ policy itself.

Prosectors have a right to tax returns in conjunction with prosecutions (and the investigation that precedes an indictment). This is in conjunction with a prosecutorial investigation into the Trump Organization itself. I believe similar investigations into Trump University and the Trump Foundation also requested ta returns and rather than provide them, Trump reached settlements that included the closure of both Trump University and the Trump Foundation.

The losers of the 2016 election tried to get the results overturned with their phony russia collusion hoax

That failed so now you want to try for a death by 1000 cuts

This is all partisan politic bs

The Russians interfered in our 2016 elections. Are you denying that conclusion?

Unfortunately Trump has the misluck of coming from a state that hates him and wants to remove him from the Presidency.

States have a lot of jurisdictional power over their own residents, oftentimes even after that resident has moved somewhere else.
That is unless the federal courts step in.

I would think though that the state of New York already has his tax returns, so why would they need to order Trump to hand them over? Are they trying to look at his taxes outside of New York while he was not even living there?

It will hurt Democrats more than it would Republicans.

Trump's trying to conceal the fact that he's not as rich as he'd like people to believe. The problem with Democrat candidates is the opposite: they're much richer than they'd like their supporters to believe.

Then Obama should be held accountable. He was the sitting president on that first Tuesday in Nov of '16.

The Latest: Appeals court blocks Trump tax return release
    on October 7, 2019

NEW YORK (AP) — The Latest on a ruling that President Donald Trump must turn over his tax returns (all times local):

    10:55 a.m.

An appeals court has temporarily blocked the release of President Donald Trump's tax returns to New York state investigators.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan Monday granted the delay requested by Trump's lawyers until the appeals court could consider the issue expeditiously.

It came as Trump tweeted that "Radical Left Democrats" were pushing local and state "Democrat prosecutors to go get President Trump."

The action froze the effect of a ruling by Judge Victor Marrero that concluded Trump could not stop his accounting firm from complying with a subpoena seeking his tax returns.

The returns were sought in a criminal probe of the Trump Organization's involvement in buying the silence of two women who claimed to have had affairs with the president.

    10:15 a.m.

President Donald Trump's lawyers are appealing a judge's conclusion that the president cannot stop Manhattan's district attorney from getting his tax returns.

U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero had said in his ruling Monday that he could not grant such a "categorical and limitless assertion of presidential immunity."

Trump's lawyers immediately appealed to the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. That means the returns are unlikely to be turned over immediately.

That court is also based in Manhattan. The Justice Department declined to comment.

District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. has asked Trump's accounting firm to turn over his business and personal tax returns.

It is part of an investigation of the Trump Organization's involvement in buying the silence of two women who claimed to have had affairs with the president.

    ___

    9 a.m.

A federal judge has rejected President Donald Trump's challenge to the release of his tax returns for a New York state criminal probe.

Judge Victor Marrero ruled Monday. He said he cannot endorse such a "categorical and limitless assertion of presidential immunity from judicial process."

The returns had been sought by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. His office is investigating the Trump Organization's involvement in buying the silence of two women who claimed to have had affairs with the president.

Trump's lawyers have said the investigation is politically motivated and that the quest for his tax records should be stopped because he is immune from any criminal probe as long as he is president.

Obama presented the Russian interference information to a meeting of the Congressional leadership of both parties in mid-September 2016. He wanted a joint, bipartisan announcement of the interference. Mitch McConnell refused and said that if Obama released the information without the Republican's approval, he would brand the announcement as "partisan." At that time, the intelligence organizations also favored a release to the public.
Following the election, Obama ordered the intelligence agencies to prepare a report on their findings, with as little classified information as possible, so that it could be presented to the public, before he left office. That led to the joint intelligence report, primarily accomplished by the DNI, the CIA, the NSC, and the FBI, but concurrence of the other intelligence agencies within the federal government. Shortly thereafter Buzz Feed published the Steele Dossier, and shortly after that, the Russians arrested three people, in Moscow, related to cyber-warfare, for treason in the transmission of classified material to western intelligence agencies.

So a month and a half before the General Election Obama wanted to create propaganda against Trump and
Im surprised that the fake news left media didn't pick up on this and blame Trump for the interference.

There were a few articles...particularly on the "Russia...if you're listening" Trump speech and rumors about the Manafort investigation, which I believe he resigned over.

The president doesn't decide how public funds are spent in the normal course of the country's business.

sounds like an argument for mandatory congressional tax return disclosures, going back 8 years of course.

Yes it could and it could also easily backfire on him and allow the Court to take a look at the DoJ policy that prevents his indictment as long as he's President...with a decision based on "no one is above the law."

I dont think they have quite enough activist lib judges at this time to go that far

If the clinton judge is eventually overruled he should be removed from the bench
