That is a matter that would have to be voted on. This argument is not new by a long ways. Any party hoping to get reparations better think about the tooth fairy. I mean not at all likely.

If you have to put a price on it, that seems like a fair amount.

Democrats held slaves. So to be fair, if they want to pay blacks $129,000 the fair thing to do is collect from Democrats and give their money away to blacks.

That doesn't make any sense. Slavery was legal under the laws of the United States, so that's where the responsibility lies. When the government paid reparations to the Japanese, that money came from the Treasury, not the Democrats, even though it was a Democratic policy.

I still want a reperations fan to tell me how it will be determined who is "black enough" The OP won't touch this question with a ten ft pole, anyone else care too? Which ones are 'black enough'?

FDR managed to get us punished for Democrats acts. We never ordered the Japanese to be held captives.

People like to talk about the black contribution toward the American economy during the antebellum era. Libos like to tell us that blacks built the American economy. A poster here said that. If anybody would like to discuss this particularly we can start a thread.

I can tell you that slave labor in America was in no way more productive or more cost efficient than ordinary labor. The North had a far superior economy to the south.

The industrial revolution, the huge influx of immigrants. The growth of the steel and auto industries and the growth of tech and bioscience all occurred without slave labor.

The issue of who "qualifies" is always ignored. It's what happens when reality gets in the way of a pipe dream. Those "black folks"^ ?
Their 'white privilege' was so strong, they traded it in for a winning hand!

It would be a cluster f**k on an epic scale. All we know for certain is that it will never be enough and since the culture, attitudes and behavior will likely not change the economic disparity will still be there.

Well, if you can find a slave owner then you can recompense their slaves.

The loudest voices for reparations are the least representative for the need for reparations. Black tenured professors. Black millionaires. A black president. Wealthy black congressional representatives. Their very existence puts black victim hood to shame.

"We?" The government did, acting on our behalf.

Interestingly, Italians and Germans were also interned but the courts were not interested in any reparations for them. As for internment itself, in a war like World War II, I'm for it. Enemy citizens should be interned until the cessation of hostilities. Where Roosevelt went wrong was that he interned US citizens as well, but I sure don't feel I owe a damn thing to Japanese citizens who were interned during the war.

4 of my high school buddies were locked up as kids. They collected two times for reparations.
These people were as innocent as we Democrats were.

FDR is imaterial to this discusion. America itself took advantage of slavery and created wealth passed on to generations.

How did America create wealth from slavery? The southern economy was inferior to the Northern economy that did not have slavery. Slave labor was not in any way more productive or cost efficient than ordinary labor.

7.5 million of the 9 million people in the south worked in agriculture. 3.5 million of them were black slaves and 4 million of them were whites.

There was nothing gained by having slave labor in the south. The south lost the war because the North had a superior economy.

That's interesting. I thought such "wealth" was more or less destroyed during the war. Certainly the South spent the next century in abject poverty compared to the rest of the country. Where did that wealth go?

Now Mike don't you know that white people in America sat around doing nothing while black folks made them rich?

You didn't know that black slaves did all the work making those computers in Steve Job's garage?

Maybe the wealthy Blacks are speaking up for the poor Blacks, not for themselves.

Their existence would negate the myth of systemic racism.

Why would a racist country even allow them to exist?

Having a small percentage of wealthy Blacks doesn't mean White Supremacy no longer exists.
