A now-viral video of a woman accusing a Black man of stealing her phone only for it to be in her purse has outraged critics online.

The video posted on TikTok by user @fuxktdub on Monday, Dec. 6 has since garnered over 2.1 million views with the headline caption, “Karen really pulled this at a Spencer’s. r@sism alive and well.”

The altercation appeared to have occurred at a Spencers store in an unknown location, and the video starts with the unidentified woman rummaging through her purse.

    The comments are very telling.

“She has an Apple Watch?” questioned one user. “She could’ve literally pinged her phone from her watch ?!? People are wild.” “She didn’t wanna call her phone because she saw it in her bag and knew you were recording…smh,” claimed a second person.

A third person pointed out, “The way she was stalling tryna come up with a backup plan after she felt it in her purse.”

“Her face was so red because she found it in her bag,” added a fourth person. “And look at how she continues to lie even after she found it.”

Seriously, after she knew the phone was in her purse, how long did she think she could keep this charade up? What was she trying to accomplish by doing so?

I know this is probably off topic but I have a story.

A man was riding the public bus and at one point he realized his phone had disappeared. As soon as the bus stopped he went up to the bus driver and told him that he had lost his phone and couldn't find it. I guess he assumed it must have fallen down and might be on the floor somewhere. There were several other people on the bus so he couldn't really see underneath all the seats. He probably expected the bus driver to make an announcement for everyone to look under their seats. Well, the bus driver had a different idea. "What's your phone number?" the driver asked him. He told him his phone's number and the driver took out his own phone and called it.
A ringing was heard. It was coming from the very back of the bus.
Both of them went towards the back of the bus to see where the ringing was coming from.
A short Mexican woman who did not speak English pulled the phone out of her pocket and shrugged, handing it to them.

The man had been pickpocketed, it seems.

First, why didn't you just add the last two sentences during your first writing? You kept editing for some reason.

Two, who was falsely accused in your story?

Third, are you mentioning this story to deflect from the fact that this lady falsely accused someone of stealing?

My point is this Karen might not have been entirely without good reason to be suspicious.

    Is that always wrong?

It's not like they were going to haul him off to jail without evidence.

Yea, that's what I thought. You brought up this bogus, fictitious story to implicitly support this lady and what she did, and the "it's not like they were going to haul him off to jail without evidence" pretty much gave it away.

    It's not fictitious.

For every story that exists, there is a counterexample.

Maybe the individual she suspected of taking her phone had actually taken her phone. What then?

I agree that racism often takes the form of uncertainties and burden of evidence.

Innocent people can get accused all the time when the evidence is not certain, so how easy is it for racism to slip in there as a prejudicing factor.

Ah, let's introduce variables that didn't actually exist.

That's not the point. We wouldn't have known what actually existed at the time, if we were put in that woman's shoes.

In many types of these situations, we never find out what actually existed (with certainty).

To be able to understand situations like these, you need to think in terms of probabilities, rather than simple established facts.

I will agree that the woman in that video looks like an awful "Jersey" lady.

But again, that would be as unfair to judge her by physical appearances as it would be for her to judge that other man by physical appearances.

You couldn't defend this lady any harder.

Let me go make some popcorn, let's see how many more excuses you can make for a lady who knew her phone was in the purse and STILL accused this man of stealing in it and you're STILL playing lawyer for her after the fact. Even the user comments saw that and you STILL defend her and it's obvious why.

You have no point. And stop with the edits. You run a newspaper or something?

She continued to accuse him even after knowing her phone was in her purse. You won't come out and say she was wrong because you know your fellow righties would eat you for lunch. You're on a message board for goodness sake. No one is going to take your lunch money.

A lot of times when new facts come to light that indicate someone may have made a mistake, that person is very reluctant to accept the information and recognize their error.

    This is human psychology.

That is why it is so hard for so many likely innocent people to be released from prison.

A good character trait is to be willing to immediately admit possible fault when new information arises.

I have a similar story. Took my phone out to Calc math on price per ounces in Dollar General, laid it on counter and didn't pick it back up.. left went home and figured out my phone was gone.. went back and asked employee if he'd seen it and he said no.. met another employee who made the call to my number.. it started ringing where the first employee was behind the counter... and he handed me my phone.

Karen will always have her defenders. You can pretty much take that to the bank.

They're going to make up fictitious stories to justify Karen's actions, they'll have their "what if" scenarios to deflect from what actually occurred.

Probably because she did not want to take her eyes off the person she suspected.

It's amazing how a phone has a habit of shifting to the very bottom of a purse, under everything else. Most women don't expect it to, but it does.

Yes, because her charade is "still up for debate" in your mind.

Funny how when the facts come out she's still the victim in your eyes.

Isn't it possible to defend her initial actions, but not after she realized the phone was there?

Nope. She had zero evidence that this man stole her phone.

You're defending her pre and post "oh look, here's my phone" actions.

You're as bad as police who raid the wrong home, realize it's the wrong home but stay another hour or so to make it look "legit" because they're not trained to say "we're wrong".

This was like a video on YouTube where the cop stopped a car, realized he had stopped the wrong person, but proceeded with "can you still tell me where you're headed"?

And that folks is why the taxpayer always had to foot the bill. Karen and cop defenders are one in the same.

    You are correct.

Now, if only police only ever acted on evidence and not suspicion. (sarcasm)

Life isn't always fair. Just be happy this man did not unjustly go to jail.
