Due to the high cost of housing in California, many people are living out of vans.

The young people just starting off on their own are having difficulty going out and getting a place. It's especially challenging in the Bay Area region of the state.

This kid started a YouTube channel documenting his living in a van:

He describes his frustrations and what he sees as the financial situation here:

He finally did get a room to rent. 900 dollars a month. A room in somebody's house, not an apartment.

It's happening in the big high cost of living cities in Los Angeles and around Silicon Valley

People living in out of motorhomes parked on the street because they can't afford the rent. Of course they have to move their motorhome every few days or it could get towed away.

Of course all these motorhomes are exacerbating the parking issues in many places.

There are a lot of people of varying ages living in vans, and not just in California.

I read about an older woman who lives in a Prius, travels and camps extensively for very, very cheap, and has seen most of everything there is to see in the lower 48.

There's commercial fishermen who eek out a living on the rivers and live in vans and thrown together shacks. It's in their blood, they got to be on the rivers. Good river rats.
