With Russia’s War on Ukraine, Kinzinger Introduces New AUMF

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) announced his introduction of a joint resolution that would authorize the use of U.S. Armed Forces to defend the territorial integrity of Ukraine in the event that Vladimir Putin escalates his unjust war against our democratic allies. This Authorization for Use of Military Force to Defend America’s Allies Resolution of 2022 would authorize the President of the United States to utilize our forces to respond to a scenario in which the Russian Federation uses chemical, biological, or nuclear weapons against Ukraine.

Based on previous commentary on this forum, there are plenty of people who are ready to go to war right now, so although I view this move as the height of insanity, it's possible it could pick up popular support.

No US personnel in Ukraine or Russia. PERIOD. Arm the Ukrainians to the teeth, but no US personnel unless Russia forces an Article Five response.

Telling Putin exactly what you will and will not do is very useful to him.

When many people think of a nuclear war they think of it as something that happens unexpectedly, with the other side launching the barrage of nukes. Not that many people realize that a nuclear war can be a popular thing on both sides. :)
WW2 was not the last big war that the humanity experiences. We will have future wars, probably even more devastating than the WW2.
I support this resolution because I still believe that a nuclear exchange is not likely and because the current nuke count is not high enough to really destroy the U.S. or Russia. Nukes is the only fallback that Russia has. If it spends its arsenal and does not destroy its enemy (which it won’t) then Russia would have to fight our armed forces with its military conventionally, and we can all see how this would go down by their performance in Ukraine.

Do we want to give Russia the ability to test their nukes on civilian populations with impunity?

I don't think we should put diplomats in harms way, but boots on the ground after such actions will be mandatory. It's Standard operation procedure when they spray our nato allies with radioactive fall out. Overseeing their clean up operations will be in the cards.

Adam Kinzinger. A Republican with the balls to think for himself and stick to his beliefs.
I like him for the future of America.

I've asked this question before. Why do democrats want actual war with Russia? Adam is certainly a democrat now, why not just announce it already? And shouldn't the folks of IL be allowed to bring fraud charges against him for misrepresenting them in congress?

Why do you say he's certainly a democrat now? Because he fails to walk the line and follow Trump to the trash pile?

No. I think he's a democrat because he acts like one, nomenclature aside. He should just finally come out of the closet and admit his shame. Again, why do democrats actually want war with Russia? Could it have something to do with how shytty the economy is under Biden's mismanagement?

In my opinion, I don't think anyone, Dem or Republican, wants war. Maybe someone with a brother in law in the defense contract business or something.
    Personally, I'd buy Raytheon stock.
I guess people have different opinions of how much of Russia's BS we should put up with.
No one will know what the "right" move is until some years from now.
Exactly what is Kinzinger's policy beliefs do you think makes him a Dem, other than "wanting war"?

It is totally moronic. Ukraine is not the 51st state and if they were they would not care about our borders. Plenty of idiot republicans willing to join him on this stupidity.

Why are we not working overtime to end this conflict? If Adam is so brave why don't he go enlist right now?

Why arm them to the teeth? Let Europe do their share. We are spending billions we cannot afford for a country that is not an ally.

You support this resolution? Why not then to pack your suitcase and go to Ukraine to support this resolution?

There are plenty of republican neocons who think this way. Tom Cotton berated Austin for not using words like win and victory against Russia. People are so afraid of being called Russian assets they might as well have a nuclear war to prove their manhood and patriotism.

I’m a taxpayer and a voter in the U.S. and I support it. Any use of WMDs by Russia in Ukraine should be severely punished, even at the risk of a nuclear war.
Reason - if this happens and we look the other way, all countries will see that only nukes can give them real security guarantees, which would eventually lead to a very large world conflict that involves a heck of a lot more nukes than what Russia and the U.S. currently posses. I see such a measure as a necessary move to prevent future devastating conflicts.
We can survive and win a war where both sides have 1,500 nukes. Looking the other way might eventually result in the U.S. and NATO having to fight a lot more sides, and each side would have thousands of their own nukes. This is a 1938 moment - we can look the other way and let the problem become a much bigger issue, or we can nip it in the bud now while we still can. ;)
