I think a more likely scenario is Putin turning Russia into a parliamentary federal republic (on paper, of course) and making himself eternal prime minister with the president being reduced to ceremonial figure. No, Russian government is cracking down on Russians more with every day. They passed a law recently about insults to the government and many people are being prosecuted even for criticizing police. With such law, they can change the constitution to make him eternal prime minister and jail people who just speak out. Previously they’d arrest people who show up in meetings. Now you can be arrested for a Facebook post or a comment in a blog.
