So now it starts in Kenya... "Renowned Italian-born conservationist Kuki Gallmann has been shot and injured in an ambush at her conservation park in central Kenya. The author of the best-selling memoir I Dreamed of Africa was airlifted to hospital for treatment. Ms Gallmann, 73, owns the Laikipia Nature Conservancy. She also ran a luxury safari lodge that was burned down last month by suspected cattle herders, who have been in conflict with landowners. Herders have been invading private property in search of fresh grazing in the drought-stricken Laikipia region. British rancher Tristan Voorspuy, who also ran a safari company, was shot dead in early March while inspecting his lodges in Laikipia." http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-39683731 IMO hungry overpopulated humans will eventually eat up all the biodiversity on the planet, and then themselves starve. One might ask how anyone manages to purchase so many kilometers in a foreign country, though, and whether or not this extablishment of a conservation park destroyed some regional balance.
The same thing is happening in the US. Is the true intent of sealing off all fertile land a form of population control?
Wealthy people purchase land, become fond of it, and place it in perpetual trusts. Part of the risk involved in having too few control too large of a percentage of the wealth is that, eventually, the group mind is not functioning accurately because only a portion of the group has enough wealth to make any decisions that have sufficient impact to keep things going properly.
I hope miss Gallmann will be well, and I hope kenyan police will find responsible for the attack. Laikipia county does not looks that densly populated, and judging by our experience of investigation in rural areas - just a few policemen should pretty much be enough.
