Sad case of Kyle Rittenhouse who was bullied in highschool and dropped out after he was called "dumb" and "stupid". Kyle is not a mass killer since he only killed two people. The question is is there a connection with being bullied and dropping out of school and having to be part of some group who carry guns? Was being a police wannabe or a militia wannabe or a vigilante a form of revenge or Kyle's need to proove that he is worth something.

Did society fail Kyle or will Kyle fail society. Will the justice system recognize that Kyle apparently needs help? If he is convicted of murder or manslaughter will he learn to become a mass murderer some day or will someone help this sad soul before his walks free in open society?

    Thoughts?

Not sure what the problem is. He irrefutably acted in self defense.

Pretty terrible that he idolizes first responders but even worse.....he got a speeding ticket!! I wonder if this writer will be embarrassed after reading this down the road.

This could be a contributing factor, often times kids who are bullied in school simply want to find acceptance of some form regardless of what it is. Maybe he wanted to be a part of something since he was apparently left out of most stuff as a kid among his peers.

It's hard to tell in his case. From what I've gathered throughout the day on other forums there is supposedly video evidence of him cleaning off graffiti and stuff around the town earlier in the day prior to this incident. I haven't seen the video, just having read what others have said. Stuff like that makes it look like the kid was out there just trying to help and play peace officer when he had no business doing so and he got caught up in a horrible situation. None of us will ever know the actual reason why he went there and what he was expecting to accomplish, all we will know is the testimony of what he says.

The kid was bullied in school, perhaps he saw what was going on and sympathized with those in Kenosha who are being actively "bullied" by the rioters and felt like he should go help. Perhaps he just wanted to be accepted as part of something and went to hang out with the militia to feel part of a group for once. Perhaps he knew good and well that his mere presence there would cause trouble and was hoping to stir the pot. Perhaps he genuinely went there to help and wasn't looking to cause trouble but came armed with a rifle because he saw the violence and knew that it was a dangerous area he was heading to.

We simply don't know and that's whats going to be difficult with this case when it comes to both the prosecution and the defense. WHY was he actually there is likely going to be one of the main focuses of the court proceedings.

Regardless of why he was there my rational brain is saying going there in the first place was dumb. I wouldn't have done that, I'll defend my life and property with deadly force all day long but that mess has to come to me, I'm not running towards it. But I'm also much older than this kid and didn't get treated the way he did in school so who knows what he was thinking when he made the decision to travel there.

He BETTER NOT EVER walk free in society, he deserves the death penalty. He travelled from another state with a semi automatic weapon strapped around his neck looking for murder and mayhem, and he created it.

Of course what he did was atrocious!
He was arrested. He will be tried and convicted. If that state has capital punishment he will be a candidate.
There is literally nothing more that can be said or done about this right now.

So a white kid goes 20 miles out of his way to confront black based protests/demonstrations that broke down into violence, and you're pushing the "poor misunderstood" schtick?

Remember, the MSM along with law officials noted that early peaceful protests/demonstrations by BLM and for Floyd were infilitrated by "agent provocateurs" hell bent on violence and looting. Rittenhouse took it a step further. But hey, what's the excuse for the local law enforcement that gave him the okey-doke for 12 hours before arresting him?

On this board you have hordes of posters screaming bloody murder about BLM/Floyd/Blake and God knows how many more as communists trying to hijack America (Portland being their battle cry), yet where's the condemnation for the likes of Rittenhouse? It's already been documented that self proclaimed vigilantes and para-military folk rush to various places unsolicited by local law enforcement....not a peep on these boards from certain people regarding some white supremacist affiliations.

So forgive me if I call for Rittenhouse to have the book thrown at him. Whether a psych evaluation will get him a lighter sentence remains to be seen.

Who, on this forum, has supported this kid’s actions?
Yes mitigating psychological circumstances are used constantly in jurisprudence (too much for my taste)
And there has been plenty of silence and in some cases understanding for the violence protruding out of Antifa and BLM (400 years of oppression etc.).
There are not embedded agent provocateurs from the right into these organizations. That’s absurd and conspiratorial to the point of suggesting counseling to those who truly believe it.
The violence that erupts in these things is the result of decades of lack of oversight of young people and the lack of a demand for reason and accountability.

Are you saying he didn’t act in self defense? If so, on what grounds?

The poster I quoted said no one was supporting his actions. Your post was a clear example showing that’s not true.

I say he can’t argue for self defense because he violated multiple gun laws to inject himself into a volatile situation. You can’t go pick a fight then shoot the first person to rise to the challenge and claim self defense. Then proceed to shoot more people when they try to stop an active shooter.

He didn’t violate any gun laws. At all. None.

And what evidence do you have that he “picked a fight”. The totality of the video shows him retreating until they stopped him from doing so.

    Yes he did.

Could the suspect carry the rifle legally?
Kyle Rittenhouse, a 17-year-old militia member who has been arrested and is facing a homicide charge in the matter, was not old enough to legally carry the assault-style rifle he had, according to statutes, which say anyone under 18 who "goes armed" with any deadly weapon is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor.

"There may also, frankly, be federal laws that he's violated because he crossed state lines with a gun that definitely was manufactured in interstate commerce," Cotton says.

You have every right to your opinion that a young kid who is very possibly mentally disturbed is your hero. Of course you also have every right to be wrong.

From your link: John Monroe, a lawyer who specializes in gun rights cases, believes an exception for rifles and shotguns, intended to allow people age 16 and 17 to hunt, could apply.

Furthermore: “Federal law does not restrict individuals from transporting legally acquired firearms across state lines for lawful purposes except those explicitly prohibited by federal law to include convicted felons; persons under indictment for felonies; adjudicated “mental defectives” or those who have been involuntarily committed to mental institutions; illegal drug users; illegal aliens and most non-immigrant aliens; dishonorably discharged veterans; those who have renounced their U.S. citizenship; fugitives from justice; persons convicted of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence; and persons subject to certain domestic violence restraining orders. Therefore, no federal permit is required (or available) for the interstate transportation of firearms.”

    You wanna try again?

The guy was literally getting jumped by a mob of people. One who punched him, one who kicked him, one who smashed a skateboard on his head and one who pulled out a handgun while he was on the ground. Not sure how you come to the conclusion it’s not set defense.

By the way, slightly off topic, one of the people he shot was a felon illegally carrying a firearm, one was a convicted pedophile and the other was a serial felon domestic abuser.
Sounds like Kyle needs an award.

Nothing wrong with wanting to be a first responder but I question his motivation. You should not draw conclusions based on surface facts.

I just read the artical. That and the videos that show him being chased and attacked by the mob is all I have. Yet the artical was written with a dark tone and your post also written with a dark tone based on undark facts. Perhaps it is better to gain facts before painting a dark picture of the guy??

Thank you for a well stated rational and intelligent response to this thread. I truly believe that the bullying he experienced must have caused him to drop out of school and yes the bullying in my opinion is central to the decisions he made that led to the murder of two people.

I normally do want murderers to be executed but in this case I believe that this kid was mentally and emotionally damaged and that is what led him to commit the act of homicide.

You mean like George Floyd? Remind me again how many televised funerals the multiple time felon who pistol whipped a pregnant woman as he robbed her in a home invasion received.

There is no hard core proof yet that he acted in self defense.
