L.D.S. Baptism for the dead.... and Rabbi Nachman of Breslov.

Discussion in 'Religion & Philosophy' started by DennisTate, Jun 26, 2018.

?

Would you personally be offended... or happy to see somebody baptized on behalf of your ancestors?

  1. I would be offended.... I am sure all my ancestors are in heaven already.

  2. I would be happy..... because many of my ancestors did not know G-d well at all.

  3. This idea is rather new to me and I have got to do more research on this to decide.

If we limit our thinking to a century or so.......
a lifetime plus a number of years after our death......
    you have a valid point.........
when when we factor millennia into the question.....
Eventual Universal Salvation can actually make perfect sense!

We have to come to the place though where we are able to accept
the possibility that the soul or spirit...... on which is recorded the identity of you or I
.......... might have been used to also record the memories, personality and identity.......
of a villain or two over the past six millennia?!

    http://www.allaboutchristian.com/spirituality/
Near death experiencer Bruce F. MacDonald Ph. D. actually was shown Rabbi Yeshua - Jesus teaching something like this to some of his disciples.
Five paragraphs that have the potential to save this world!

If...... an official from fairly high up in Nova Scotia's Latter Day Saints community......
can assure me that I will not be dis-fellowshipped for the types of quotations that I just made in post #26.... then I am going to be tempted to get baptized for the fourth time .... and as an L.D. S.

Their teachings on Baptism for the Dead..... is so attractive........ and so compelling....... that I am willing to consider getting my wife really, really, really disappointed with me......... because at this time she is praying fervently that the Latter Day Saints will kick me out and never allow me in their church again............. It could happen.........
my all time record for getting kicked out of Christian churches is two in not much more than one month back in 1991...... The Worldwide Church of God.... and an offshoot from it.... The Philadelphia Church of God..........

The Worldwide Church of God eventually changed their policies and I am no longer marked... .and shunned.......

Heh....so they changed the "Word of God" in such a way that this version says you are good enough for the new version and you want to now belong to another version which teaches some version opposed to the version that kicked you out before changing their version to be the new version that thinks you are worthy? Dayum….stick to the NDE stuff as it is far less confusing and probably better for your ACTUAL life and relationship.

Good point..... but basically I am thinking that for the rest of my life I will be quoting NDE stuff...... more than ideas from any group.

The main reason that the L.D.S. impress me is that they wholeheartedly support near death experience accounts.

I have to admit that I will be asking some truly challenging questions of fairly high up leaders in the Nova Scotia Latter Day Saints temples before I take the plunge.......
My all time record for being ex-communicated or dis-fellowshipped from Christian churches is TWO..... in little more than one month back in 1991......
and it would not be a good thing for me to get baptized as an LDS,...... and then get disfellowshipped from the church within a year due to what I write on these forums!

I would be offended if someone some baptized me a Mormon after I died. Not because I think it is going to change my afterlife in anyway (I'm not even sure if there is one), but because I don't want any confusion about who I was and what I believed in. I have fought against people pigeonholing my beliefs almost my whole adult life.

Dennis, I am amazed by all the metaphysical reading you do. How on earth do you have time for contemplating the Word of God? Now you want to bring Joseph Smiths teachings into the picture? Are you going to give the Jehovahs Witnesses equal time? It all gets very complex all this bouncing around, but Jesus said His yoke is easy. There are not many that can indulge in so many philosophies and stay on track. Can you?

Actually.... Jehovah's Witness missionary Reg Forbes debated with me each month for several hours back during my teenage years.

He slaughtered me in our first debate..... because he knew the Bible extremely well.......... And back in those days he and I actually agreed on the Soul Sleep idea.

He got me reading the Bible itself obsessively..... partly so that I could keep up with my Jehovah's Witness friend and monthly debate partner.

I believe that Messiah Yeshua - Jesus is doing something with the various denominations that is challenging for us to even begin to grasp at this time. My wife is an amazingly gifted Pentecostal....... so it seems that no matter what our background is.... if we will truly seek G-d..... we will find G-d.

    On the other hand........
I think that the main point that Latter Day Saints are attempting to make is that after our deaths..... we can then come to understand that Messiah Yeshua - Jesus really did fulfill the role of Messiah the Passover Lamb.... and thus he can come to us and give us a Life Review........
and get us started on a totally different path than where we had been while alive..... and perhaps for months and years after our deaths.

    Latter Day Saints are human.....
and may themselves think that they are baptizing people into their church......
but from the point of view of the higher invisible dimensions.......
maybe they are mostly opening a door to a new beginning for the deceased people who will accept..... the most relevant part of what they are doing for us.

Nobody has absolute understanding of how souls are saved......
but if there is some way to initiate a new level of Life Review and a breaking out of people out of guilt or shame......
that sure sounds like a risk worth going for for the people who after death.... may have decided to hide from their life review due to guilt..... .shame...... or fear.

Your advice was wise indeed.......I have pretty well decided that the reason why Messiah Yeshua - Jesus led me to attend the local L.D.S. ward is so that

I could begin to assist some disfellowshipped L.D. S. to eventually return.......

or those who left in anger.

I would be shooting myself in the foot if I were to get baptized as L.D.S. myself.......

it would make it very difficult to initiate a conversation with them....... if I was all the way L.D.S.......

Being able to introduce myself as a Hebraic Roots Universalist Christian Mystic......

    leaves the door somewhat open.

My wife is Pentecostal...... so unless she went L.D.S. herself.... (which is not likely at all)... it just would not be a

good decision for me within my set of circumstances.

I am one of those people who is glad that I was a member of the Worldwide Church of God for all those years.....

I learned a lot from everybody there.... I am not somebody who went all bitter and angry afterwards.....

and I know that I am not the worst at assisting others to rethink the reasons why they left a church.

But... some NDE accounts verify some pretty heavy

L.D.S. doctrine.......... no kidding..... The important part is after the 33 or 35 minute mark.......

For the record though... it will make no difference to me whether they decide to go back to the L.D.S. ... or go to another church...... or go full fledged Jewish Prostylite..... or Buddhist........
I am human so I am very biased toward following Messiah Yeshua - Jesus... .but Isaiah 45 makes it obvious religion....... and ethics....... are very different indeed.

    True......
but if the idea of a Baptism by Fire means so much of the Holy Spirit in our minds and / or hearts....
that our nature changes.... then receiving this fire would bring us closer to heaven.

Ahhh... the Stick of Judah and Joseph through Ephraim. In that day this shall happen. After a resurrection which occurred with Jesus. After that day in the last days too. Stick refers to book. A tool to write on. There are many examples of ancient writings writing on sticks or parchments on sticks or parchments between sticks as in a scroll. And, I'm apart of the tribe of Joseph through Ephraim as is Joseph Smith. As was possibly Lehi. The Bible is the book of Judah and The Book of Mormon is the book of Joseph through Ephraim. Prophecy...Goes right along with Isaiah chapter 29.

You have to understand that Jewish Scholars aren't necessarily religious or believe in their religion. Same with some Christian Scholars. They get high on themselves and look down on others. Much like the Pharisees and Sadducees did to Jesus and his disciples. The other aspect is they also come from a different point of view not looking for a Messiah in our days. Instead, trying to ignore the obvious and the life and goal of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am a convert from Judaism. Yet, I can recognize prophecy fulfilled when I see it. I don't have to be one of those who read, study over and over yet not getting anywhere when it comes to eternal life.

Yes........ the time could well come when any of us could be really, really, really glad that a Latter day Saint is willing to get baptized on our behalf.........

Here is a level of outreach that might be somewhat unnerving to many......

    Matthew 16:26

For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

I just got an e-mail with the following message.....

I Am the King, with English Translation

A time is predicted when even a feeble resident of Jerusalem will be comparable to King David on at least some levels.

"In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them." (Zechariah 12:8)

it would make no difference to me as I would be dead

the only real people upset are the living

but let's be honest, Christians like to do this to people too, say they were Christians, when they know they were not

    I plead guilty as well....
some very unusual things happened during the last five to eight hours of my older brother's life on September 23, 2020. I am truly hopeful that as my brother heard my gifted Pentecostal wife praying for him to choose Messiah Yeshua - Jesus as his Savior and Messiah......
that he did exactly that during those hours when in this realm he appeared to be in a coma.

I am hopeful that similar to near death experiencer Rabbi Alon Anava who reports seeing all the events of the life of the girl with him in the back seat of a taxi on Passover 2001 in New York City.... so also as my brother would be able to view all the life of my wife from her childhood that he would choose to join her people..................... and our grandmother was Pentecostal as well...... so he would a number of reasons to decide to go in that direction.

Since the time of his brush with death former Atheist Rabbi Alon Anava has been teaching and teaching and teaching all of us who will listen.....
