IIRC the late Stephen Hawking suggested a "hunker down and avoid the aliens" strategy.

 

Its one thing to try to determine if aliens exist by passively looking for signs of ET life, its quite another to invite the aliens to earth. Any alien civilization capable of actually coming to earth would be so far advanced beyond humanity that they could just take and do what they want. Its foolish to assume these aliens would be benevolent.

 

I doubt we'd ever encounter actual aliens, maybe their probes or drones, but time and distance would probably keep two species from ever meeting before one or both ended up extinct through other causes...

I agree with him 100%. Also, if we do encounter extraterrestrials, we need to greet them with as much force and viciousness as humanly possible.
