This is it. Finally we're out of Iraq. This morning the last US troops left Iraq and crossed into Kuwait.

Thank God. Too bad we have a 17,000 embassy presence... yeah im sure none of those have any sort of military background... I will say this: Obama can sure half-truth his way through anything! I am glad we are getting outta there though.

The security force guarding the US Embassy in Baghdad are contract employees, not military. There are no Marine embassy security personnel.

And how has Obama half truthed his way during this withdrawl? He's kept his promise to leave Iraq.

Yeah but the thing is that most embassies only have like maybe 10 guards/soldiers, not 17.000 like the Iraq embassy has.

I’m glad we left Iraq, now we just need to leave every other nation. I don’t think we should be the worlds peace keepers.

I do say we need a strong military though. And a strong attack if someone attacks us. But not to rebuild their nation afterwards. We just need to keep out of other nations business as much as possible.

I don't think we will be out of Iraq ever. From how that embassy has been described it should be classified as a military base.

Why do we have contractors there for security and not US troops? I would prefer the money go into the pockets of our troops. Does this bother anyone else?

It's a dangerous country and our embassy compound is quite large.

Does that really matter? He is pointing out the fact that all other embassies are quite a bit smaller.

Accuracy is important. Are all other embassies in one of the most dangerous spots on the planet? No.

Of course not. And there is no denying you need a large security force.... but 17,000? That is ALOT of people!

Not really. I was in Vietnam from 68-72 and we maintained a security staff of approximately 7,000 personnel at the US Embassy. And US Embassy Saigon was in a much more secure area then US Embassy Baghdad.

What on earth makes you think that?

Here are US Marines, members of the US Embassy Security Detail at Baghdad.

There are Marines at every Embassy in the world. It is part of their duties, and has been for over a century.

The 17,000 man force are attached to the Embassy, but they are not Embassy guards. They are providing security to the area, not the Embassy itself. And among other duties they are assisting in training the local forces, both military and law enforcement.

Look, I am all for truth. Everybody knows that the US forces were just replaced with civilian mercenaries. But the truth needs to be told on both sides.

I am very happy our guys are out, but I don't have much hope for Iraq's future.

Nor do I Margot. We should never have gone into Iraq. The invasion was predicated on lies. And I predict that within a year Iraq will suffer civil war.

When you go into war based on lies.. mission drift is the norm.. Like in Afghanistan.

We have to stop being enablers.

When the Iraqis or Afghanis or Yemenis ... or Israelis want peace and prosperity as much as we want it for them.. they will be successful
