I can see ending it but it isn't the same. Male circumcision does not prevent a man from experiencing the full range of sex and can actually provide health benefits. I would say with how sanitary society is and how easy it is to get healthcare I don't think it as needed as it once was.
You're spectacularly missing the bigger picture, which is they're both crimes against the person. Also I don't see what 'the health benefits' are.
A child's health is a parents concern not yours. Even if you don't see the health benefits it is hardly comparable. I don't promote male circumcision but I don't think it is oppressive so much as outdated.
Well, you are wrong.. Its NOT forbidden in Islam, neither is it promoted. The practice is African.. When African tribes converted to Islam they brought that tribal practice with them.
Crap, and superficial crap, because some 'parents' shouldn't be allowed to have children - especially religious zealots! The health and well-being of children is the concern of all of us.
If you thought Female Circumcision is always the choice of the parents, guess again Parents decide they want to break from tradition and not circumcise their daughter. Guess how the community responded. Man received massive beating for trying to protect his daughter from getting circumcised Olalowo Hammed Olalekan and his wife, Modinat, were harassed after being pressured repeatedly by family members and members of their community to bring their daughter for circumcision as usual with traditional requirements. According to NewTelegraph, the couple have reportedly fled the shores of Nigeria for the safety of their children. When he tried to escape to meet his family after sending his wife and children off, Hammed said i was attacked and beaten to the point of death, by my kinsmen and community members for refusing to subject my daughter through the female genital mutilation. He added that he was left to die after the massive beating. Olalekan said, “I thought I had died. I was bleeding all over my body with swollen face and cuts on my body. What I experienced from them is not what I wish anybody.” “If it were my wife or children, they may not have survived it. I was on my way home, when some men began taunting me for not allowing my daughter to be circumcised, rather aided their disappearance.” He concluded. http://tweakinggist.com/2016/08/05/m...t-circumcised/ Read this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...er-online.html She was 21 ! Her father planned to get her cut and have her married off to some man they had never even met. In these parts of the world, if the parents don't choose to have their daughter subjected to circumcision it's common for another family member to grab the girl and make sure it gets done: Zameena, a young mother of a five-year-old girl did not want her daughter circumcised either. She refused outright when her mother-in-law said she must continue with a practice that is part of traditional culture. But the older woman went ahead anyway. “I was furious when I returned home to find my daughter, then 3 months old, howling in pain,” she recalls. “I am helpless when members of my family still believe that it is part of our religion.” http://www.ipsnews.net/1996/08/sri-l...e-circumcised/
Is Africa destined to always be a primitive continent? One where the adults habitually use overwhelming physical strength to inflict torture upon its children?
Sure as long as we end male genital mutilation called circumcision at the same time and say no boy or girl should get a blade taken to their privy parts for any reason, and ban it under a global treaty in all cases.
It's more prevalent in Saudi Arabia than people think. For one thing, FGM is known to be practiced in the North, bordering Iraq, and the South, bordering Yemen, on the outer fringes of the kingdom's territory. A study that was conducted in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia among 4800 pregnant women found that 38% of them had been subjected to FGM. http://en.wadi-online.de/index.php?o...yse&Itemid=108 Chibber R, El-Saleh E, El Harmi J.: Female circumcision: obstetrical and psychological sequelae continues unabated in the 21st century; J Matern Fetal Neonatal Med, 2011. 24(6): p. 833-6 This is what Wikipedia had to say: "Female genital mutilation is present in Saudi Arabia. FGM is most prevalent in Saudi regions following Shafi'i school within the Sunni sect of Islam, such as Hejaz, Tihamah and Asir. In a clinical study, Alsibiani and Rouzi provide evidence of the practice in Saudi Arabia. Another 2010 report claims post-FGM medical complications are an indicator of widespread prevalence of the practice in Saudi women. A 2012 study finds, that of the Saudi women who had FGM, Type III was more common than Type I or II." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preval...y#Saudi_Arabia "Type III" is one of the worst: http://www.dofeve.org/types-of-fgm.html There is anecdotal evidence that the practice of FGM may even be spreading due to religious reasons. Sheikh Muhammad Salih al-Munajjid, a popular muslim preacher appearing on TV broadcasts in the country, insists that circumcision is religiously prescribed for men and women. (source: https://islamqa.info/en/60314 ) Then there are rumors of adult women from wealthy families being forced to undergo the procedure in clandestine facilities in gated high security compounds. http://www.shiachat.com/forum/topic/80714-egyptian-muslim-girls-like-female-circumcision/?page=3
ARAMCO ran clinics for Saudi women back in the 1940s. FGM was rare unless the wife was from East Africa.
Manal Sharif was forced to undergo female circumcision at 8 years old: https://m.csmonitor.com/Books/Book-...woman-s-story-of-the-obstacles-to-her-freedom The practice is most prevalent in southern Saudi Arabia and the cities of Mecca, Al Qunfudhah, and Lith. There's a difference between the Bible and religion. If you want to think that the Bible is a patriarchal plot, that's your prerogative.
Only Islam? I guess those thousands of neo Nazi’s are Muslims. I guess those millions of non Christians, ya know jews...were problematic too in Germany
There’s a difference between a history book and history also but you can’t eliminate the correlation.
Circumcision, the ultimate act of child abuse, perpetrated upon the weakest by the strongest - and all in the name of effing religion! And the really weirdest part of it is that it's carried out by women.
