' However, at 10:30 am, on 26 May, a Catalina flying-boat, based at Lough Erne, Northern Ireland, found Bismarck.'

I guess it was flown by the RAF...for some reason I had thought it was flown by Americans...maybe volunteers or something.

I guess only the plane was American.

    So is that the answer?

    A British PBY Catalina?

Btw - we should start a new thread as this one is past 500 posts.

My question was how it was found as opposed to who found it...
How was the Bismarck found by British aircraft on May 26, 1941?

They followed the ship's oil slick...is the answer I was looking for.

    Who?

    The Catalina?

Or the Swordfish that attacked it?

    Or both...just curious?

I know they got a general idea where it was thanks to Admiral Lutjens - the German commander - putting out a long radio message because he thought he was still being watched.

The Brits triangulated his rough position thanks to his dumb move.

    Either way....well done.

    Your turn again.
