I do not normally post videos as the conversation starter but this Podcaster, known as Beau of the Fifth Column appears to know what he is talking about

As he says - he not anti-gun just anti gun rhetoric

His whole premise fails when you understand that an AR rifle can use this new round simply by changing the barrel. There are already AR type rifles that use more powerful cartridges. I hope his channel isn't monetized, because he shouldn't be making money off of this much BS.

ARs are already available in over 100 calibers, and each caliber has bullets that vary widely in size and construction.

He assumes that there's a monolithic gun culture.

People use ARs because they are familiar with them.

People use ARs in mass shootings because the media will make them famous. Who remembers the Santa Fe High school shooting?

What is the best firearm to use if you want to efficiently kill as many children as possible?

If my kids were under duress I'd want them to have an AR in their hands rather than a shotgun.

My kids are grown and out with families of their own. They have a lot to protect.

The simple horror is that crazy folks will continue to get guns. Why? Because, democrats refuse to allow for the long term treatment and care of severely mentally ill people. Why? Because putting crazy back on the streets funds their agendas. Homeless, drugs, chaos, it all fuels their case for more taxation and tyranny.

What do you mean by “duress”? An argument over trees dropping leaves into a backyard? Someone running a bicycle into your car? An Uber driver who is late?

I can't conceive of shooting a single child. Why don't you pick?

Apparently, the 9mm handgun, which was used in the worst school shooting in history.

There you go again, assigning nutty partisan conspiracy theory to something you evidently know nothing about. It was a series of court cases that forced deinstitutionalization.

You took everyone's guns. Hows that knife and other assault crime though?

Why does that rarely happen here then? And rape is way way way more common by someone known to the victim

The video kind of reminds of Bowling for Columbine: America's toxic gun culture is more to blame for all the violence and shootings than the guns themselves. Time have changed. People used to own guns because they needed them (to feed your family or to fulfill your militia duties). Now people don't really need guns but the gun industry wants to keep making money. So guns are marketed as some kind of macho status symbol. That means marketing guns that are as similar to the guns used by the military as possible. So gun owners have basically created their own opposition when it comes to the issue of assault weapons (though probably less attention should be paid to that issue and more to handgun violence).

ARs are less than 10% of the guns purchased each year, and have been on the market for 58 years.

A shotgun, with a cylinder bore choke, firing No. 1 buckshot.

ARs are so popular because they can be bought inexpensively, compared to other rifles of it's type. They're light. They can be accessorized with lights and ****. They're easy to use for small framed individuals, like a 5 foot tall woman.

How many more could Cho have killed if he had an AR and five 30 round magazines like the other nut job in Texas?

Objection: speculation. Assumes facts not in evidence. It could just as easily be the case that Cho would have never have even made it onto campus, carrying a long gun, at all.

Objection speculation: A 9mm handgun is the most efficient way of killing multiple children.

I've heard many different discussions this week, following the shooting. And some have resonated with me.

Firstly that the media needs to change their wording from gun 'control' to gun 'safety'. Small change, but makes a very big difference and is more in line with the bills that keep coming up.

Secondly that the gun culture CAN be changed. We need to take the same approach to the gun culture as we did to the cigarette culture. Who would have thought - in the 1950s - that cigarettes would be all but banned in the US by 2020? That smokers would become societal pariahs and would have to confine their smoking, basically, to their homes?

How would you know who the gun owners are?
