Yes, but housing prices and rents have absolutely skyrocketed in Colorado in the past ten years.

"DENVER -- While not totally unexpected, it's still a stunner.

For the first time, the average price of a single-family home sold last month in metro Denver topped a half million dollars, according to the latest Denver Metro Association of Realtors Market Trends Report.

No kidding -- a house you could buy in Denver for ~$80K in 2008 (even in somewhat-moderate-to-crappy neighborhoods) is now going for $250K - $300K. That is probably "rabbit turds" compared to New York or San Francisco, but it ain't 'chump-change'.... But it's no surprise to me that we 'look' more and more like other liberal hell-holes in the country, because Californians started flocking to Colorado in the 1990's, and now they've taken over. Colorado is now a 'Blue' state in every sense of the word.

California is getting a version of a polar vortex today. Normally storms originate in the Gulf of Alaska move down the coast with chilly rainfall. The current airmass started in southwestern Canada without the benefit of Pacific ocean modification and tonight will be very cold with frost widespread. According to the LAT SoCal has more hypothermia deaths than New York

In California it is highly unusual for low temperatures like that to occur often in Los Angeles, San Diego, etc. When I used to make business trips to one of our company's West Coast HQ's, I noticed beautiful outdoor flower beds on our company's campus just off I-15 in San Diego -- in February!

But along the I-25 corridor, from Denver down to Pueblo, Colorado, you can have nightly freezing temperatures from about mid-October all the way to mid-May. And it's not uncommon for nighttime low temperatures to hover near ZERO. I still can't understand why anybody would want to "camp" outdoors in weather like this... especially when there's legal weed and abundant welfare available in a 'paradise' like Southern California....

Frost can occur inland from ocean several times a year though not every winter. Feburary has been very wet and cool. The point is that sleeping outside with minimums in the 40's or lower has to be miserable

There were traces of snow below 1000' yesterday including Pasadena but minimums were above freezing for most of the metro area this morning.
