No. 18 year olds sign their own agreement with the University itself (public Universities, obviously .. not private. We don't have a lot of private universities here). They 'borrow' each semester to cover cost of that semester's tuition only, and can stop at any time.

*SIGH* There are other ways to get out of poverty than college, there's the military (which you loathe), and there's trade/vocational TRAINING! Master tradesmen make far more than a bookworm with a degree in gender studies.

The truth is blue collar tradesmen (skilled ones) blow the doors off of liberal arts degree holders in the real world (unless you become a rock star or professional athlete).

There is no substitute for education to bring people out of poverty.

Actually college is a great investment. The return on the dollar (loaned) is huge, over a lifetime of professional work. My kids are doing $120k degrees, but will earn that much in their first year of working. And since they'll be at home, rent free, until those loans are paid off (should take no more than 2 years), they'll still be miles ahead. It's really a fantastic option for the lower income family. Pretty much instant departure from poverty for the next generation.

Of course, if your family is very very wealthy then your kids will be able to choose 'luxury' courses - Arts and Humanities etc. Since they don't need to pay back that loan, or even necessarily work for a living.

College education is great if you pick a field that has demand and also pays well. Nose picking humanities degrees are right up up there with underwater basket weaving. I don't understand why people pick such crappy majors. Parents picking up the tab while the kid parties?

Well, yes of course. Only a completely brain dead and irresponsible parent would allow their working or middle class kid to borrow money to study Sociology. Even my dog knows those numbers don't crunch, hence my not stating it :p

But in answer to why ... it's that parental dumb-dumbness, plus with a complete disregard for their child's future ability to support him/herself, coupled with outrageously elitist parental notions about their kids being special, being talented, or doing things that 'make them happy' .. as though that any of that was reasonable for anyone but the ultra rich (hint, it isn't).

The comments that you are making on this thread "backs my claim" as U like to say.
You're afraid your tax money might feed and house lazy people.
Therefore U and and your "believers" are against tax money being used for
social programs which U describe as handouts.

We both agree on this assessment of yours....

So are you one of the "few Christians that believe or follow actual tenets of the Bible"?

If you are one of the few, why the heck would you care if tax money goes to "handouts" to poorer people?

What did your Christian god tell you concerning your payment of taxes?

Solving for simple poverty is a social net that enables more efficient participation by the ready reserve labor force.

Please quote me where I said I don’t support taxes because it might go to lazy people.

And are you outright advocating for handouts to lazy people?

That's the main premise of this whole thread. I'm quoting the term "lazy people" that you and your
"Christian", holier than thou, pals use to describe people receiving government assistance.

I'm advocating against so called "Christians" like yourself, passing judgement on everyone but themselves.

Just out of curiosity, passing judgement isn’t the problem, it’s the Christian part, correct? Just like care of less fortunate isn’t a priority for you either. Because Christians and other religious people are doing more for them than non religious and non Christians. Yet they are the ones you “judge”.

I’d also like the quote where I’ve claimed to be holier than thou. And the quote where the OP claims his question has anything to do with religion at all.

You are starting to flail all over the place now. On a false premise from the start. It’s very interesting actually.

Hey Einstein, I'm agnostic and deist all rolled into one, if that's possible, maybe even with a sprinkle of atheist thrown in for good measure. The last time I set foot in a church was for a wedding....and they are long since divorced now.

Since I created the thread, I know what the premise of the thread is.....and it's about jealous, envious lazy liberals who want to confiscate other people's wealth.....it's the same premise used in propaganda like Lenin and Trotsky used to overthrow the Romanovs and create the USSR. Politicians prey on the simple-minded poor and use their jealousy to gain power by promising to make the rich people poor and the poor people rich. Marxism/Socialism in a nutshell.

I just wanted to know how much I could have before you stole the rest.
