…“gleeful effort to decimate whatever remaining legitimacy the Supreme Court still possesses in the eyes of the secular, liberal world order” and accused him of “trolling American women, reproductive justice advocates, his liberal colleagues on the bench, and his international critics”.

Particular issue was taken with a segment of Justice Alito’s speech warning of a “growing hostility to religion, or at least the traditional religious beliefs that are contrary to the new moral code that is ascendant in some sectors.”

The “new moral code”, they insisted, was a dog-whistle for “the progressive values that define a flourishing liberal democracy: LGBTQ rights, women’s equality, secular public education, a humane criminal justice system—everything Alito despises.”

Justice Alito was also excoriated for referencing the suffering of early Christians in a world without religious liberty, when the Roman authorities executed St Peter and St Paul and threw ordinary believers to wild beasts, and for observing that the “Cultural Revolution did its best to destroy religion, but it was not successful. It could not extinguish the religious impulse” and, paraphrasing St Augustine, that “[o]ur hearts are restless until we rest in God, and, therefore, the champions of religious liberty….”…

he justice’s speech on religious liberty was spot on. I’m glad that he said everything that he said as documented here by the reporter. The defense of religious liberty is a reasonable goal and shouldn’t even remotely be seen as political. Yet secular progressives were there to attack the concept.

The speech was harmless yet it angered advocates of the liberal world order. The justice was right to speak out on behalf of religious liberty for traditional religious beliefs and values.

Traditional religious beliefs aren’t an issue until you expect everyone else to follow them too.

Kind of like how we are all expected to believe biological men can be women? Like that?

Who knew the people would start fighting against religion when it started trying to take over government.

Anyone that is gleeful our SCOTUS is compromised by religious ideologues that are twisting rulings to suit their own narrative goes against everything this nation is supposed to stand for — freedom of the individual.

I hope the upcoming elections have unprecedented turnout, Republicans don’t win when the people vote which is why they are pushing independent legislator theory and massive gerrymandering attempts.

Yeah, that’s not how it’s going. It’s 100% trying to be forced on people.

Looks like Alito has gone full political. And there I thought the SC court members should be too dignified for political attack speeches. Not surprising, since the RW activist Supreme Court is now legislating from the bench, something that RWers were always opposed to.

Religion is not taking over the government, the SCOTUS rightly argued the lawful flaws that existed within both Roe and Casey. And the role of granting rights in our government is not the Supreme Court of the United States, but rather the US Congress.

It is the Liberals who perverted the Supreme Court, appointing ideologues to the bench and required 'conservative ideologues' to counter, that brought us to the situation.

Who said anyone had to follow? We will bitterly cling to our religion as Obama once mocked and will will demand the liberty to freely exercise there of said beliefs in the face of opposition and hate from the secular

A lot of woke secular progressives crap is being crammed down the throats of religious people and they act shocked that religious people are resisting this deliberate assault on all that we hold dear

Since when is a speech on religious liberty political? The Supreme Court is doing the opposite of legislating. It is following original intent of the written constitution as amended instead of inventing bs penumbras that aren’t weren’t and never will be there.

Funny how you never complained about Sotomayor using political attack speeches. But seethe when justices you oppose do.

Does that include the religion of liberalism where insanity and illogic rule?

Where whites are evil and all others are good?

Where you can be any insane thing you want to today as long is it's PC?

Where criminals are the good guys and the police are the bad guys?

Where an 80 year old imbecile who shakes hands with Harvey the 6 foot invisible rabbit is perfectly fine but the 4.5 billion year old climate is a dire emergency?

    Of course not.

But you can be fired for dead naming them or using incorrect pronouns. Think that’s ok? Suspended from school for bullying if you don’t believe? Depends where you work or where you learn, but it’s spreading. Religion doesn’t force anyone to follow it. That **** hasn’t been relevant for quite a while. The NEW religious zealots are Leftists when it comes to LGBT “rights” and the green agenda or vaccines.

Ah yes, everything Republicans do is because of Democrats.

Roe was decided by conservative justices
All the liberal justices were sat with bipartisan support and enjoyed high public support

Since y’all’s stunt the public support of the court has plummeted — the last 3 were chosen for the president by a private organization — the people see what you are doing and I hope it costs the Republicans their party

    Crammed down your throat? Seriously?

What have you, personally, been forced to do - or prohibited from doing - in your daily life, because of “secular progressive crap”?
    What has affected you, personally?

You don’t want the free exercise though — you want to control others.

Abortion, contract law, the ability to purchase specific goods… but if anyone even asks you people to wear a mask it is the end of the world. Y’all still try and ban alcohol in many places and the drug war can almost completely be laid at the feet of the religious.

Not to mention that they have funded the child abuse and coverup in numerous church’s — with no real penalty.

I have gone from supporting religious worship to believing it is a plague on this earth all because of people with this mentality.

It is progressives who want to control others. Abortion is a science issue more than a religious one. Religion is not being forced upon anyone but it is the basis of many Americans asserting their God given inalienable rights to live our beliefs and ideals in our lives.

    Amen!! (/s)

When you have to "religious worship" outside of a private relationship with the God of your choice, it's always going to be a problem...

We'll have a Supreme Court again someday, not packed with political control freaks....

Abortion is absolutely a medical issue, medical organizations are pretty much in agreement that abortion is very much preferred over forcing women to carry to term.

You cannot even fall back on religious principles because the Bible says life is not granted until the first breath and has specific instructions for abortion.

Religion is absolutely being forced — and public perception of it is at its lowest level ever recorded. I would say y’all don’t deserve what is coming over the next few generations but you have worked hard to achieve it.

Yeah, nobody is "seething" but it just proves the SC is useless. It is just a tool of the right wing now. Their rulings mean nothing.

Not to mention that Thomas's wife might have been involved in insurrection.

They have NO credibility. We Blue States have already started ignoring Federal laws as we see fit. And there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it.
