L'Oreal to remove words like "whitening" and "fair" from its products

The world's largest cosmetic and beauty company announced on Friday that it will stop using words like "whitening" and "fair" in describing its products. The announcement comes amid anti-racism protests and calls against racial inequality following George Floyd's death.

"The L'Oreal Group has decided to remove the words white/whitening, fair/fairness, light/lightening from all its skin evening products," the French cosmetics giant said in statement.

L'Oreal faced backlash earlier in the month following a post on Twitter stating it "stands in solidarity with the Black community, and injustice of any kind." The post garnered comments accusing the company of hypocrisy for dropping British model Munroe Bergdorf from its brand in 2017, following comments she made about systemic racism.

L'Oreal isn't the first company to make changes to its brand, as pushback continues over controversial skin-lightening products and beauty companies' lack of racial diversity in products and advertisements. On Thursday, Hindustan Unilever, the Indian and Bangladesh unit of Anglo-Dutch firm Unilever(UL), announced that it would "stop using the word 'Fair" on its "Fair and Lovely" skincare products. Unilever stated its reason was to move toward "a more inclusive vision of beauty."
Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), also announced on Thursday it has discontinued two lines of skincare products from its brands that include the word "fairness" on its labels for the same reasons.

The madness continue and is sweeping the world. I mean, four weeks ago something like this would have sounded like a bad joke... well, it still sounds like a bad joke.

I would really like to hear from African-American PF members what they think of it. Democrats, I already know what they’ll say.

I do not believe those companies are doing this for solidarity or any other noble reason. A simple self-preservation is more likely, least its storefronts will become a targets for the bricks.

I could see someone enter a woke meeting of SJWs and ask people if they want to get some white bread and crackers to snack on or even state that recently they smacked their face in a doorway and just might end up with -- gasp! -- a black eye.

A protest was held in my town today to "end racism now". Its logo? A black power fist. Most of the attendees .... white.

 

The alternative is readily available and can be taught by the police forces of no-nonsense countries. it is there for the taking.

As I've said many, many times, the commercials on TV are pretty much nothing but black people, token black people, hawking products. How come the left isn't going nuts over token black people being used to earn corporate profits?

And it's only a matter of time before someone on the left wants to remove the red and white from the red, white and blue. And I used to think the left lost it when they said black holes is a racist term. Heck, they were just getting started.

The more I think of it, the more it seems to me, no one wants their business torched or looted, so the hastily changed name is a shield against that.

Personally I won't spend a dime on any of these newly woke businesses, acts or organizations. I don't think I'm alone in that. We'll see what the bottom line shows soon enough.

Mike Henry, a white actor who has voiced black character Cleveland Brown on Family Guy for over two decades, has stepped down from the role.

Henry has appeared as Brown since the show’s very first episode broadcast in 1999, and starred in spin-off series The Cleveland Show which ran for four seasons between 2009 and 2013.

In a tweet, Henry said: “It’s been an honor to play Cleveland on Family Guy for 20 years. I love this character, but persons of color should play characters of color. Therefore, I will be stepping down from the role.”

 

I’m sorry you’re so triggered by seeing people of color in commercials.

 

When are they going to start replacing toilets? They are white and must be offensive! They should be black!

 

Maybe some RW corporations will rename their stuff with racist names to get the business of those offended by non-racist ones.
