I know you are being metaphorical, but nightmares do not reflect reality. They reflect real fears, and they seem real, but they are a figment of the imagination. They correlate to stress, but there is little to be stressed about except for the Democrats abandonment of any sense of propriety, civility, or fairness. Corey Spartacus Booker now says it doesn't matter if Kavanaugh is guilty. Trump has done absolutely nothing, save make some insensitive remarks, that warrant your stress. The economy is better, trade is better, unemployment is lower, tensions with North Korea are lower, and inflation I think is lower. The stock market is higher. He is enjoying himself immensely, giving away his salary in the process. Relax. You might even think about getting behind him.
I guess Kavanaugh is your kind of guy. To me he will always be that snotty crybaby who appeared in front of the Senate Thursday. We aren't ever going to get anywhere here. I am going to cut off this political crap and watch the baseball playoffs. Whether or not little Brettie gets on the SC is not up to me and I really don't care one way or the other at this point. What's another corporate lackey on the court in the grand scheme of things. Even if he doesn't get in another lackey will be inserted in his place. My Pirates are not in it so I really don't care who wins. I really like most of the teams involved and I am looking forward to some great BASEBALL....Cheers!
You and Seth are definitely the two smartest people on this board. Thanks for your contributions which are always sane and reasonable. Are you a Braves fan? If so congrats, they had a great turnaround season and I know that they love Baseball down that way.
Oh yeah. I love the Braves. This turnaround season was totally unexpected. At least by me. I grew up listening to the Braves when they were in Boston and then in Milwaukee. Atlanta, pre 1966, had the Braves minor league team, the AA Southern League Atlanta Crackers. A lot of players that ended up on the Braves roster came through Atlanta back then.
It's too bad that such a thing happened to you. That's the reason why we have a rule in our house in that there is no talk regarding religion, politics, or relatives with either relatives or friends. Those subjects are simply off limit, and it's worked.
I reject your "cheers" because you are slandering a person you do not know, going through a hell not of his making, by people like Michael Avenatti, Julie Swetnick, Corey Booker and Maise Hirono, who just wants the men of this country to "shut up." How can you not be disgusted by his detractors at this point? How can you not show compassion since you know full well he may be innocent. His crime is entitlement? You know this from his appearance? From the accident of his birth into an accomplished family? How unkind. As I see it, Kavanaugh is a scholar, athlete, lawyer, judge, volunteer, husband, and father. He hasn't so much as a blemish in his professional life, and the blemishes from his personal teen years are starting to looking like small potatoes at best to lies at worst. He's knocking on the door of the Supreme Court. He may not make it. But I haven't accomplished half as much. Have you? I'm sorry you re leaving to watch a baseball game. I was enjoying exposing your prejudices, not that it's very hard.
Today's politics are full of slandering people who we don't know. It always has been to a degree, but with a bombthrowing namecaller like Trump leading the way it has gotten even more ugly in that regard. Kavanaugh is certainly not the first or only one being slandered recently. Trump and his cult members have constantly trashed Clinton, Comey, Mueller, Rosenstein, Sessions and almost every Democratic Senator. Kavanaugh is a lifelong political hatchet man and not the kind of person who should be on the SC in my opinion. He was one of Ken Starr's guys and gleefully made sure that all of the dirty details of Clinton's affair with Lewinsky were made public. I am sure that he and all of the so called "little elves" who dug up that sordid affair were all sitting in a D.C. Watering hole drinking and laughing their asses off when the details about the cigar, phone sex and other things were being repeatedly broadcast on national news. Now when he is being accused of abhorrent drunken behavior by several women, he acts like a big sissy crybaby. He might ooze his way onto the court but he does not deserve to be there.
Lifelong, eh? That's factually, laughably false. But I don't know that lifelong political operatives are ineligible to sit as judges anyway. There are lifelong prosecutors who become judges, and do a fine job. You can't predict what a supreme court justice will do. Justice Scalia's 4th and 6th amendment jurisprudence is some of the strongest and most liberal (in the sense of ant-state, pro-accused) you will find. Here's the simple truth: the President gets to pick Justices, subject to consent of the Senate.
And if they try to put a left wing political hack on the court, I hope the senate votes thumbs down too..
I posted some humorous comments on Facebook in which my unconventional convictions were revealed and now no one speaks with me...
Actually, you will. Having said that, I saw something on TV last night and it had me wondering. A couple of American trailer inhabitants (not even a double wide!), of some 5 older than myself, married 30+ years. They were both morbidly obese, and looked, sounded, behaved, and lived like 80 year olds. They could barely move, their home was filled with all the dusty cluttered trappings of old age, and they spent their days in hideous 1990's leather recliners watching tv and eating 'cheese & meat' from trays. And there I was, weighing in at 48kgs (not sure what that is in lbs, but it's not much), sitting on the very edge of my sofa in full tension because I find it difficult to fully relax before bedtime ... needing as I do to get up and move around at least every 15 minutes. In my spotless, and carefully curated and designed home, after eating a superb vegetarian meal which didn't include cheese of any kind, and was fully prepared by my hands, from scratch, and included a good proportion of home grown elements. So yeah, you can slow it down.
Hmmm...what I meant by never growing old was that while the exterior ages with time (some more then others as you correctly point out by taking care of yourself) it's what's in the inside that also counts. You can be 65 y/o but still think and act like a 25 year old if you put your mind to it. I know some who are 65 and act like they are 70 and others who are 65 and act 30 years younger. I also see your correlation between those who live in squalor as opposed to those who live in a well maintained house/existence as well.
Do you eat the dandelions that grow wild in the yard? I have never tried them. The mature ones look awfully tough, but I reckon the young ones might be good but they have thorns ....
Having different beliefs and opinions is not a problem, in fact, they're good for each and everyone of us. This covers all subjects, even politics. The problem starts when someone tries to change the beliefs of someone else, they try to make that person into a copy of themselves. As soon as they do that, they will never understand others.
I wonder why anybody would need Facebook with all the effing trouble it causes. And it's only for losers anyway,
Join "groups" on facebook with people who share your views. My brother does that so he can air out all his facebook politics there and not on his main wall.
I'm not personally a fan of 'thinking like a 25 year old at age 65'. I prefer to see folk mature at the 'right' pace. Of course, much depends upon what you mean by thinking young. If you mean staying interested and intellectually alert, then sure. If it's lifestyle choices and relationships etc, then no.
