The Golan Heights were part and parcel of the Palestinian Mandate Territory (see Map) assigned to Great Britain at the San-Remo Conference in 1920, and later confirmed by the [League of Nations] on July 1922 The borders of this Mandate were internationally agreed upon, because they corresponded with those of the Historical and Geographical Land of Eretz Israel. And, were intentionally delineated as a basis for the RECONSTITUTION of the Jewish National Home. The Golan Heights [Gaulanitis/Bashan] was illegally given away to the French Mandate of the Levant (Syria -Lebanon) on March 1923. This territorial transfer was surreptitiously made in a capricious and arbitrary fashion by the British whose sole interest was to secure Mosul's oil fields to Iraq, and reduce the constant tension with the French Mandatory Powers in Syria-Lebanon, which had designs on these same oil fields. A Mandate is a Trust, according to ART. 80 of the UN Charter Israel's decision to impose its Laws on the Golan Heights on December 14, 1981, had in reality, RIGHTED the WRONG which was committed by the British in March 1923. Syria could not make a standing claim in an International Court of Law as Syria was not an Independent Country then, but in reality was in its formative years under the French Mandatory Powers. The "Golan" as its is known was never part of Syrian Real Estate, but part of the Palestine Mandate. THE GOLAN HEIGHTS LAW On 14 December 1981, the Knesset passed The Golan Heights Law by a vote of 63-21. Its first paragraph states: "The law, jurisdiction, and administration of the state shall apply to the Golan Heights." Following the passage of this law, the Israeli military administration on the Heights was dismantled and regular civilian authorities were established. The Golan's Druze residents are permitted to maintain their previous citizenship, but were given the option of becoming full Israeli citizens. For various reasons, few have done so. Since the British surreptitious transfer of the heights to the French Mandatory Powers of (Syria- Lebanon) is considered one-sided, and since Syria got its independence only in 1946, the events of March 1923 could not be taken into consideration by Syria today as a 'fait accompli'... Now, Since the Golan is historically part of Israel today, and since Syria attacked Israel from these very heights when these were under her jurisdiction... the loss of these heights to the Israeli counter attack is 'legal' by any yardstick of history as Israel sole purpose was also trying to right a wrong committed by the British in 1923.
