it is sad for anyone to die, let alone die abruptly like Chester Bennington did earlier this year. But, unlike Bennington, we knew Young was going downhill far before his death. He had been suffering from growing dementia, forgetting how to play his bands songs he had played over the past 30 years. Malcolm Young is proof money and fame doesn’t always mean better healthcare. But, many on Facebook and other platforms are hailing Malcolm as a guitar legend. He is not. Anyone who knows AC/DC knows the band has suffered long from stylistic consistency, and has shown little attempt to venture out of their comfort zone, despite having many different producers over the years. The rhythm guitar players in RHCP, Linkin Park, any band that has gone beyond simply four power chords are more of a legend. It takes much more skill to play lead over rhythm. Let alone proficiently. I know this myself. The sad fact is Malcolm can be replaced, whereas real legends like Freddie Mercury and Chester Bennington cannot. Only a singer eight a unique timbre cannot be replaced, even if the best of the best are selected to take their place. A guitarist can nail Young’s parts, honestly pull a AC/DC concert off as if Malcolm simply retired. This thread is not to say Malcolm was insignificant, but he was not a legend or a pioneer to modern rock music.
I disagree. Bennington is quite replacable. A better idea of irreplaceable would be someone like Paul Grey of Avenged Sevelfold. They haven't been the same since he killed himself.
